No smoking night

Recommended Posts

If someone or numerous people smoke can you smell it all over the pool area? Thanks

No, you can't unless you are right there on the smoking side. It is outside going 16-18 knots with usually a breeze on top of that. Go on the other side of the deck, very easy to get away from it.

I am very sensitive to smoke, and fortuntely the smoking at the pool area I have not found too bad. Typically when I smell it it is because someone is smoking on the non-smoking side. I must say I was far more impressed with HAL's smoking policy than RCL's, but at least RCL is better than Celebrity's policy. On HAL there is no smoking by the main pool (the smaller aft pool permits smoking) and multiple bars/lounges are 100% smoke free.

I really think smoke free is a good idea. I acknowledge the rights of smokers to do what they want, and that is thier decision, but it is only fair that there are some times when I am not made to passively smoke. Smoke free nights will mean I am able to go into the casino, otherwise I cannot go in there :(

On the Majesty last week, 12/24-12/28 we actually had a no smoking night in the casino. I didn't think they would pull it off, but they did.

Thank you.

Well they should also flip the coin and have a smoking night only also.

Maybe have a day when all the kids are herded into lifeboats for 14 hours of safety drills!!!

How does RCCL smoking policy compare to Celebrity?

I agree. Smoking is not like drinking. Smoking effects the person doing the smoking and all around that can smell it. I am not sure why it is allowed in any public area. I like how the airport does it. They have one room on each concourse and all the smokers go in there to smoke. The door opens and shuts on its own and you rarely can smell it as you pass the door. Its great!

On our December cruise on Enchantment of the Seas I was pleased to see that on one evening the casino was designated a no-smoking area. I was, however, disappointed to find the casino was almost empty that night. Perhaps some people missed the announcement or had already begun to avoid the casino because of all the smoke there on the other evenings, but I would have been much happier if the rest of us non-smokers had taken more advantage of the non-smoking environment.:)

Hi Bill! I agree ... The casino was very empty that night. Found it to be the same way the last time we were on Enchantment too.

By the way, I don't know about the other ships that have smoke free nights in the casino, but Enchantment always does it on formal night.

Well, they've finally found a way to get me into the casino!!! If they have this on my 14 night Alaska cruise I will be willing to part with some of my $$$ just to enjoy the environment! I don't have the attention span for hours of gambling, but sometimes I'd like to go in and play the slots for a little while. But the smoke always keeps me away.

What was your perection of the turn out vs the other nights. It would be nice to break the perception that most gamblers are smokers the way Ohio broke the old perception that most drinkers are smokers.

Many of us stay away from the casino because of the smoking.

Ban smoking and we will be there!!!!

Or at least limit them to small sections. Why should the minority get the majority of the space and why should the majority get the minor space? I was at the Riverboat in Indiana recently and they had at least 10 backjack tables with varying wager amounts. There was only 1 non-smoking table and it had higher limits, I am small time, but played there anyway, sure enough a smoker sat down, refrained for a while, but got a hot streak going and didn't want to leave so he lit up. I was ready to toss him overboard until management got rid of him. I wasn't going to put up with being limited to a small area and having someone violate that.

How does RCCL smoking policy compare to Celebrity?

Both RCL and Celebrity do not allow smoking in restaurants and main theater.

All RCL ships have at least one smoke free bar/lounge. Some Celebrity ships have one bar/lounge smoke free, but others have zero smoke free bars/lounges.

RCL recently banned smoking inside of all staterooms. All of Celebrity's staterooms permit smoking. You can smoke on balconies on both lines.

No smoking nights are not all that new.

This is appearantly the policy on at least one formal night during each cruise.

I hadn't noticed it until my Brilliance cruise in December and inquired. That was the explaination given at the time.

Every night has been smoking night...until now. This thread is not about if smoking is right or wrong, it was just informational to others because this was the first of 23 cruises that it happened to us. We cruise to gamble, so we are in the casino every night, smoke or not.

To BillOH, the crowd seemed the same to me, smoking or not, and we spend 3 to 4 hours in the casino every night. My DW and I approach gambling from the point of view that it is a challenge to gamble. Therefore we only play games and place bets having the smallest house edge using the best strategy. When we voted to ban smoking in Florida, there were cries that all the restaurants and bars would go out of business, guess what..none have. Again, this was not meant to start an argument about the pros and cons of smoking, nature will take care of that.

On the 12/2 on the EX. all 3 formal nights were non smoking in the casino so I didn't play those nights but my DH who does not smoke did go in but was back out shortly as he said it was too quiet and likes to play at the tables with more people so he played more the other nights as smoke doesn't bother him. I don't have a problem with the policy and it seems fair to non smokers to give them smoke free nights too. I'm sure RCCL is watching the revenue carefully though to see if it works or not. It said non smoking nights from 7pm on the front page Compass on those nights. I believe the Champange Bar on the Ex. is non smoking all the time.

I didn't notice that in May, but it was only a 3 day cruise, so maybe they didn't do it then. I paid much more attention to the compass on my 2nd cruise.

That hasn't been a problem for me. On one cruise, I sat down in an open chair and was there for a couple of hours, before someone lit up and I realized I was on the wrong side. The only time it bothered me was when they were right next to me. The ship was moving and the ocean breeze seemed to dissipate it nicely. I moved to the other side then and was fine. Smoking has really been a non-issue to me, an antismoking fanatic on my two cruises so far.

Same in Ohio, my nephew owns a bar and he and his wife both smoke. He invested substancial money into a patio smoking area and his business is even better. He and his wife both have commented how much better they both feel going home and night. They spend 3-4 hours at the bar at the end of almost every night. When the whole state goes no-smoking, the only ones hurt are those very close to a border of a smoking allowed area.

They have that for a while now....not every ship but they do it.

.

Be interesting to see which ships have it or not.......

These are the ones so far:

Majesty

Enchantment

Serenade

Brilliance

Jewel

Radiance

Explorer

While it it true that the majority of cruise passengers do not smoke, I think it is also true that the majority of gamblers are smokers. At the casino I go to in CT, they have a huge non-smoking room for slots, it has the same games as the smoking area and the non-smoking is almost always empty while at the sme time you cannot get a seat in the smoking room.

Part of this might be that every casino I go to I hear rumors that the jackpots don't hit often in the non-smoking areas. I bet if that rumor is put to rest, you would see the non-smoking areas be utilized more often.

I'm sure they dont hit as often, less people playing in an area means less jackpots.

I hit one of the jackpots at the Ct casino about a week ago in the NON smoking section. First time I ever sat in there for any length of time. Also first time I went to a casino since I have been smoke free. :D

Well, I go to one of those 2 casino's in CT. also and I play all over the place...the non-smoking section at the largest casino in CT. is so darn cold NO ONE wants to be in there.
