larry_s_taco Posted September 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2004 I haven't seen any postings about shopping. Are there any deals? Are there any specialites on the island? Larry
Bermuda Longtail Posted September 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 12, 2004 Perfume is a good buy as I've always found it cheaper than the states. You can always check the prices before you come to confirm you are getting a good deal. Also, there is no sales tax here. Myy cousin from Texas was here in July and she made some great clothing purchases on sale items. You may find china items at a good price. We carry British items as well. larry_s_taco Posted September 13, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted September 13, 2004 When you say British items what does that include? I'm very ignorant when it comes to that. The only thing that comes to my mind is bone china. Larry
CruisFran Posted September 13, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2004 Items from the British Isles...UK, Scotland, Ireland. Woolens, sweaters, linens, china, crystal/waterford, collectables. Not sure how good the jewelry prices are, but do check out the unique items available only in Bermuda...longtail (my favorite), moongate, (pendants, earrings,etc.). Craft Market out at the Dockyard has items made in Bermuda, cedar items, pottery, rum cakes, etc.. What else can you suggest Bermuda Longtail? Have fun!! Bermuda Longtail Posted September 13, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2004 Cruisfan, You did an excellent job at replying. The only thing I could add is Smith's (now Trimingham's) carries hair brushes for both male and female.
LJLB6 Posted September 13, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 13, 2004 Our kids are older so we ended up getting them souvenirs from the Gosling Black Sea Bermuda Rum Factory Store in Hamilton--when you leave the cruise ship turn right and head up Front Street. The store sells different varieties of Goslings rum--original black seal, gold, etc.. They also sell bottles of the original Rum Swizzler drink. We bought our kids t shirts, playing cards, and key chains here. Also, a store called Onio Jacks sells rum cakes--don't know how good they are though. The Carole Holding Store has some beautiful framed pastel paintings of Bermuda-- they also have more unusual souvenirs--sea glass jewlery, banana leaf dolls,.This store is also to the right when you get off the cruise ship. larry_s_taco Posted September 13, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted September 13, 2004 Wow, I couldn't have ask for anything more. I believe I'm ready to go. I've always been curious about Bermuda and the information and reviews of the port are really intriguing. Thanks, Larry
bingo3 Posted September 14, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 14, 2004 Can you purchase the Gosling Balck Seal Rum anywhere near the dockyards? Thank you!
Dockyard Member Posted October 5, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 5, 2004 Yes there are many local products to be found in Dockyard, the Clocktower mall has artwork by local artist "Mike Swan" also the "Littlest Drawbridge" has Cedar products and many other stores. There is a pottery "Clay works" and glassblowing "Dockyard Glassworks" the "Rum Cake factory" is also in dockyard not in Hamilton. Then there is the "Bermuda Craft market" which is full of locally made items ranging from jewellry to books. An art studio "The Bermuda Art Centre" has paintings and prints. I hope this helps, Enjoy, relax and be happy.:)
Host Kewlguy Posted October 15, 2004 #10 Share Posted October 15, 2004 Shopping in Hamilton is great. When we return to Bermuda on 10/25 we are staying as far away from the Dockyards as possible. There's no there there.
bingo3 Posted October 15, 2004 #11 Share Posted October 15, 2004 Since this will be my first trip to Bermuda and we will be docked at the dockyard, I will have nothing else to compare it to so plan to make it a positive experience.
smeyer418 Posted October 16, 2004 #12 Share Posted October 16, 2004 While there is shopping at the Dockyard you can easily take the ferry(1/2 hour trip) to hamilton and shop until you drop. The prices are fair not great but Hamilton is an easy shopping street.
