Anything You Ever Needed to Know About Carnival FREEDOM

We are on the Freedom in May and so looking forward to it. We've cruise 20 or more times and I don't think I could describe the decor on any ship I've ever been on. I don't go for the decor and don't even notice it. As long as they feed me and sing a song or two, I'm happy.

We cruised the Freedom in October and had a wonderful time the decor is odd but not enough to cause distress. The crew was fablous especially duwae our drink waiter. The food was Ok not anything to write home about but we never ever went hungry, the warm choclate cake at dinner was wonderful I had it every night. The movies on deck were great and we had blast with the sail away party from Venice. We danced at the captians party and drank many free drinks, we had three balcony cabins right next to each other and had them opened up so we had one big balcony. We hosted parties on the balcony and had many good times. We had a wonderful cruise and were very impressed with the ship and crew. The ship was very clean the beds were wonderful slept like a baby and never wanted to go home. My only complaint would be the limited room service and the buffet food. We loved the spa and the art auctions, what an action packed trip with 8 of our best friends and many more we met on board. The ports were very interesting, I wish I could go again this year but I must save and convince my DH to go again.

My husband and I just returned from a cruise on the Freedom. We enjoyed ourselves, it was very relaxing.

The food is just ok, but we know that about Carnival. We had a balcony room on Panorama deck that was great. Staff was basically friendly, ship was clean. We enjoyed the poolside music, the piano bar (Ron is very entertaining) and the casino. We liked to chill out in the Habana bar while we had drinks, DH had a cigar and we listened to cool jazz. We saw the Beatles show and it was cute.

Lots of chairhogs, which is annoying. Some people were a little obnoxious, but we met some very nice, fun people as well.

The hairdryer went on fire and we were seated with an obnoxious couple that didn't speak English but we got both problems rectified right away. ;>

I like the layout of the Freedom (and the Glory). I am tiring of the assigned dining/restaurants though. That is one thing I liked about Norwegian Cruise Lines.

We also just got off the Freedom. Had an absolutely wonderful time. Agree about the chair hogs (but have had this problem on other ships as well). I think what made it worse on this cruise was that the chairs are not set out at all by the crew. Everyone just grabs a chair and sets them up wherever. This led to lots of open space, but no chairs close by and where there were empty stacks of chairs, no space to put them close by. We did manage to find chairs when we wanted to lay out, but it was difficult. We did not think the poolside live music was very good or the guitar player/singer outside the casino. Seemed like every time we walked by, he was singing the same song! This in no way affected our cruise, as I said we had a great time and would recommend the Freedom to anyone. Crew was great!

We sailed the Freedom last July. I know some people complain about the decor, but it didn't bother me at all. Just to be in Italy, Greece and Turkey -- a dream of a trip. This was a port intensive trip, which I love. But our days at sea were very enjoyable -- no complaints. We are sailing the Triumph next week which will probably be a little different from the Freedom. But my 3 adult children are joining us so nothing can spoil this trip. We are hoping to sail on the Splendor next year.

my good friends are on the Freedom. Wayne & Darryl are the calypso duo, they were on the Liberty but got transferred. I still get to meet up with them every Cozumel (next Monday)

Hi Eddy,

I just wanted to thank you for letting me know Wayne and Darryl's names. I really enjoyed their performances on the Lido Deck. When they started up an old 50s R&R song, my 24 y/o son decided he needed to "cut a rug" and do a bit of "jitterbugging" with his Mom out there in front of all of those sun bathers. I'm sure we were quite a sight.

I really enjoyed your thread about the life of a Carnival DJ. Great stuff!

Thanks for all that you and the rest of the Carnival crew do to make it a terrific experience for all of us.

Bobbygirl-

Thanks for the review! I appreciate all the info! I have a group going on the Freedom later this year, so I will be sure to forward the review links to them so they can see what you have to say.

If anyone else has more info to contribute on the Freedom thread, that would be great! Any tips or secrets for the Freedom? Any spots on the Freedom that we should make sure we hit (or miss?)? Any cabins you loved? Cabins you didn't love? What about the DJ and the piano bar--are they good on the Freedom?

For those of us who haven't been on the Freedom yet, this info would be really appreciated! Thank you!

We loved the Freedom and the itinerary didn't hurt either!

The decor is gaudy but who cares?

The casino was a bit tighter than I would have liked but that would happen any where after 12 nights!!

The piano player was Ron Pass and he is just great fun!

Jon Heald is by far the funniest CD I have ever sailed with, when we would get home at night, we could hardly turn off the re-runs of what he had done during the day, since they were hilarious!

The bar (the name escapes me) where the band plays (usually Asian) is really neat looking and the colors come in and out, hard to describe but very unique!

Enjoy!!!!

Make sure you are on the Lido deck for New Year's eve. There is nothing like watching the countdown/celebration from Times Square on the big screen. (we did this on Liberty) They will have plenty of free champagne, and a great deck party going on.

A cruise critic log book is a journal that is in the Library.

You can put your name, date of travel and a few words on how you are enjoying your cruise. You can also leave a note for a cruise critic member who will be traveling after you. I found one on Liberty, Miracle and the Legend.

It is put there by a cruise critic member. We are having a roll call meet and greet at the library. Since this is a new ship I will bring one just in case

Disneylynn-

Thanks for explaining! I wish I would have known to look for this on the Liberty when I was on it this summer. Oh well...next time! I will definitely look for it on the Freedom in November when we go! Looking forward to signing our name in the log book!

Also, anyone wanting a virtual tour of certain places on the Freedom, here is a link to the Carnival web page that has all that info. Just another thing to look at and help pass the time until your cruise!

Yes, there are fridges, and yes, you will pay a tip for the baby, as he/she is still considered a passenger. You can have the steward clear out the fridge when you get to your room, if you need the room for formula, milk, snacks for the baby.

well, when you say "I will" pay a tip for the baby, I assume what you mean was that they will automatically put the $10/day on the sail and ship(whatever it's called!) card. Of course, you have the option to adjust the amount at the end of the cruise before you get your final bill....so it's not "set in stone".
