sassycruiser Posted January 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2008 We are on the Century 4/28 sailing. In reviewing the port times I thought we were in Dover for 12 hours like the French ports. But we are not - only until 1:30 PM. I think that makes it too short to go to London. Opinions? Also, if we don't do London is there to do in the Dover area? Thank you for any advice. Globaliser Posted January 8, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2008 The castle has got to be at or near the top of the list for this sort of stop.
sassycruiser Posted January 8, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted January 8, 2008 Are they withing walking distance of the port? Or would we need transportation? Thank you!
Globaliser Posted January 8, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2008 The castle is walking distance, although it will be a reasonable amount of exercise up the hill. Have a look at this map - cruise ships dock in the Western Docks.

EGG Posted January 15, 2008 #8 Share Posted January 15, 2008 It is a very long walk. I would suggest taking a taxi. It was not very expensive and the taxi driver showed us where to go to get a taxi for the way back. Then if you walk back you'll have a little energy left. We tried to walk (without a map) and my guess is it is a few miles. As it turned out, we got lost and a woman stopped in her car and then offered us a ride to the front of the port. Just the walk from the highway to where our ship was docked was a hike.
carlmm Posted January 15, 2008 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2008 When I was there they offered a shuttle bus to the city centre and to the castle for a small fee. Yet, I do not know if this done for every ship.
