OttoCal Posted January 8, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2008 If your phone is turned off, you will not get charged for any calls. And you shouldn't get chaged for voice mails unless you actually listen to them. I believe if your phone is turned on and you receive a text/pix message, you will get charged for it even if you don't open it though. Is that right?? Anyone know for sure?? cb at sea Posted January 8, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2008 We always turn off the phone, once we leave the home port. No billing surprises that way! (You definitely have to call friends and family when you board the ship, just to let them know what they're missing!!!!) We turn it back on the last night, so we can use the alarm, since you have to get up sooooo early! And by morning, you're back in your home range! financialgrl Posted January 8, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2008 I don't know the answer to your specific question but do know this - I will allow my two 17/ y.o nieces to use my phone to leave messages or talk to their parents when we hit Bayonne NJ before getting on the ship. - the whole we got her okay are about to board, etc. Regular fares, not a problem on my plan. I have told them that at $2.49 a minute while on ship I want their phones turned off. My understanding from Verizon is once we leave the ship, enter Bermuda the cost goes back down to $1.29 /minute. At that point, they can call home again to say, hey we are here, its great, blah, blah, blah but not for long! They can turn their phones on once back in NJ. I don't want to have to pay premium costs while on the ship. Nor do I want to deal with texting BS while gone either!!! HTH
