scotsman Posted January 17, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2008 Ginny and Hue Have a look at http://www.nationalexpress.com/home/hp.cfm They have a direct coach service from London Heathrow or Central London to Southampton. We are on the Indie 14th June and staying at the Holiday inn(herbert walker drive) close by the cruise terminal.
handfordr Posted January 17, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2008 There is choice of hotels at Southampton for all budgets within 5 minutes taxi ride of the (three) cruise terminals at Southampton. If you're going to the Mayflower or City Cruise Terminal the most convenient are a cluster of 3 hotels about 150 yards from both train and bus stations to London. The main gates to these terminals are directly opposite. These are all owned by the Accror hotels group and face one another. The Novotel is the 3/4 star (65GBP-101 GBP , the Ibis (55 GBP - 70 GBP) the 2/3 star and there is an Etap hotel that has just been built a real budget no frills hotel. All are new, purpose built blocks with no character but do their job effeciently enough with no nasty surprises. There is a regional shopping centre opposite the hotels and the city centre is 10 minutes walk. Less than a mile down the road towards the QE2 terminal is a 60's style Holiday Inn (85 - 150 GBP) not as good value as the Novotel. Opposite is probably the poshest hotel of the lot, the 5 star De Vere. Surprisingly the De Vere is often comparably priced to Holiday Inn. There are a few more hotels in the city centre, the Jurys Inn probably being the most notable. There is an accurate map at the foot of the url below which puts the hotels, cruise terminals and bus/rail stations in context. http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/southampton_accommodation.htm Taxi's from the hotels and rail/bus station to the cruise terminals are about 5-8 GBP.
