Westerdam Balcony

I will be booking the Westerdam to Alaska. I intend to book a balcony cabin but have never been on this ship. Any advice as to balcony's that are preferable or one's I should stay away from?

Please understand that we only book suites -- but have done a lot of Alaskan cruises.

 

Book a balcony on the port as the majority of the captains keep the port side of the facing the glaciers for the longest period of time for the best views!!!

Stay away from the steel-sided balconies - category VF & VH on deck 4.

If you have a balcony on deck 4, decks above you can see part of your balcony since deck 4 sticks out a little bit. Balconies on decks 5 and higher are evenly extended so these decks cannot look down and see your balcony. You will love the Westerdam!

"VD" balconies are about 18" deeper than others.

We prefer the balcony cabins on Deck 4, as the balconies are larger than the balconies in regular standard balcony cabins on other decks.

I don't recall steel panels on Deck 4. The balcony cabin that we had was cabin 4128 and next cruise we have 4142. They are both a VD category cabin.

If you can get them, Westerdam's VD4164 and VD4166 are great. There's an inner stairway between them for staff use; the extra outside space has been divided between 4164 and 4166 so each is half again as large as a normal verandah.

Steel panels block your view unless you are standing. These can be found in cat VF & VH on deck 4.
