Tuscany region to Florence

We will be staying in Montecatini ( in Tuscany) before we board Carnival's Freedom in May. As the day the ship is Florence is a holiday the museums will be closed. Is it possible to get to Florence from Montecatini for a day before the cruise????

Will you have a car? We were in Asciano and drove to Arezzo, parked at the station and paid around 8 euro for the train into Florence for the day. Trains are awesome in Italy (When they're not on strike ;) Do a google search for the Italian Train schedules and see if Montecatini is on the rail line.

the train from Montecatini to Florence takes about 1 hour. During "normal" times of the day, there are two direct trains per hour (leaving Montecatini Centro at 22 and 57 after the hour). You do NOT want to get off at the first Florence stop which will be Firenze Rifredi. The next stop (actually it is the last stop is what you want -- Firenze S.M.N.

 

This station is at the edge of the old city and it is an easy walk from there to the places you mention.

 

May I suggest that you buy tickets to the Accademia and the Uffizi in advance. Otherwise, you will have a long wait in line (particularly at the Uffizi).
