Casino Question

On our Alaskan Carnival cruise last summer the casino was only open when we were sailing or when we left a port. We will be taking an Eastern Caribbean Celebrity cruise next month. We are wondering what the casino hours will be on that criuse. Anyone know?

Having read alot on these boards, but not yet having cruised. I am going to suggest looking up a Capers for the same Itinerary(sp). They do contain a wealth of information :)

I think that by law, the ship's casino cannot be open when the ship is in any port. Casino hours: open as soon as legally possible; close when it is costing more to keep it open than to close it.

I believe the ship has to be in international waters before the casino can be open for business. In this fashion, there will be no way the ship can be accused of taking business away from the casinos in the ports of call it visits. However, you must also keep in mind that the casino is not open at all times when the ship is at sea. It has set hours for opening and closing, even on sea days. You won't find it open 24 hours a day like in Las Vegas.

I think the laws vary by jurisdiction, we did the Galaxy out of Baltimore several years back and the casino opened 15 minutes after we left port. Maryland was on both sides of us within a stones throw and if you know leaving Baltimore, you don't get out to sea for about 8 hours. Obviously it does not have to be in International waters but apparently in the US is determined by the laws of the states.

 

As far as staying open at night, as someone stated they will stay open as long as profitable. I do remember on the Baltimore cruise that when we came back it stayed open until about 15 minutes before docking but then there were quite a few customers including myself.
