maryann ns Posted December 23, 2009 #26 Share Posted December 23, 2009 We were in Bodrum, Fethiye and Antalya on our recent trip. Bodrum: The information above is good. There is also a shuttle boat which leaves on the hour from the dock where the Quest was. It goes across the harbour to the castle. The castle and the Underwater Archaeology museum are must sees. We walked up the hill to the Mausoleum. It is interesting. Check out the short film they have and the model of what it looked like before you wander around. Then we walked further up the hill to see the ancient theatre (We saw signs pointing to this, so it was easy to find.) The view of the town from the top of the hill is great. There are lots of taxis so take one if walking is a problem. We also had time for lunch in town, some shopping, and walking all the way back to the ship. The walk around the harbour is great. Fethiye also has a great walk around the harbour. We hired two vans from tinyakropol to take us to Karakoy. We enjoyed the ride, and the deserted village is sad but interesting. We stopped at the Lycian Tombs on the way back. They are doable from the town with a long walk or by cab. Antalya has too much to do in one day. We had to decide between the town and the museum, or going to Perge and Aspendos. We chose the latter, and hired a bus for 15 people from TravelEphesus. Perge is amazing (much like Ephesus but not quite so well restored yet) and the theatre at Aspendus was the most complete we saw on the entire trip (We were in Ephesus, Athens and Cyprus). We had a wonderful lunch by the river in Aspendos. There was a buffet plus chicken or fresh fish. I had the fish and it was delicious. We had about an hour and a half to wander around downtown Antalya before we were returned to the ship. We were able to walk to Hadrian's Gate and around this very old section of the city and we also got a few minutes to take in the modern city. We also visited Kusadasi/Ephesus and Istanbul. We loved Turkey. It is clean and friendly and the parts we saw were beautiful. The prices are low and the shopping is wonderful.
belleretraite Posted December 23, 2009 #27 Share Posted December 23, 2009 Hi ! We were on the Quest with MARYANN and she was quite good at organizing tours ! We did something different in Antalya ! We stayed in town and walked around for more than 2 hours visiting the numerous points of interest ! Antalya is very walkable and it is interesting to stroll around in the old portion of the town ! We then took the tram and went at the end of the line to visit the Museum ! This is one of the best museum I have seen so far ! It has a collection of Greek and Roman sculptures that is unique and the Ottoman part of the museum is also interesting ! A fabulous alternative if it rains ! THANKS! Enjoy!
