HappyMe_ Posted January 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2008 Could anyone tell us what shots were needed for this cruise? We are certainly going to consult our physician as well, but I am just preparing myself mentally for this procedure.
MercedMike Posted January 24, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2008 We did not get any additional shots. Of course you want to make sure your regular shots, including tetanus, are up to date. Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 24, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2008 I'm going on a Nile cruise plus land trip in February and got the same advice as MercedMike -- no additional shots necessary.
HappyMe_ Posted January 24, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted January 24, 2008 Hi CruiseMom & Mike, What are 'regular' shots? I have not had a shot in probably 45 years or more. So besides tetanus, would there be something else? Thank you
celle Posted January 24, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2008 Hi CruiseMom & Mike, What are 'regular' shots? I have not had a shot in probably 45 years or more. So besides tetanus, would there be something else? Thank you Polio - wise to keep this up to date, no matter where you are travelling. Not a shot - you take it orally. Some advise Hepatitis A as well, as you can catch this from contaminated food. Hep. B is caught via blood, saliva etc (bodily fluids) - you're not so likely to catch this, but I think it's wise to be immunised (in case you have to have an injection somewhere, or have an accident and need a transfusion). You can get a combined shot for Hep A and B (Havrix). It's a course of 2 shots, several months apart.
smeyer418 Posted January 24, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2008 talk with your doctor. He knows your health better than we do. I am sure he/she is aware of the shots that should be up to date.... this is what Canada suggests http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/tmp-pmv/236_e.html
Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 24, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 24, 2008 A lot of people don't realize that adults need to get boosters for various illnesses occasionally. This is a link to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations for adult immunizations. And of course talk to your own doctor, as you mentioned. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/pdf/wk/mm5641-Immunization.pdf
