If you are referring to Labadee, its a great place. There are plenty of beaches to choose from. They have lots of water activites including the aqua park, snorkeling, parasailing, jetskiing, etc. They also have a new zipline. The ship provides a BBQ. The only cash you will need on the island is to buy any local merchanise (they are be a little pushy, but just say NO and move on.) We enjoyed it and can't wait to go back in April! The rest of country of Haiti ( of which you will see none of while you are visiting Labadee), is very different, and not somewhere you should consider visiting without doing a lot more research than you ever could on these boards. Haiti is one of the absolute poorest countries in the Caribbean area. Very sad. Take a look through binoculars at the "homes" on the hill above Labadee--disgraceful! Hovels, really. If you go down the coast a couple of miles there is a village on the shore. Second, yes Haiti id the poorest country in the Americas and to say the homes are disgraceful is an arrogant hing to say. Most of the people in this area are hard working and take pride in the little they have. Finally what have you done to try and help. Have you bought items with out haggling them done to the lowest penny. Did you buy a CD from the musicians playing? Also a lot of the home less in your area would likely like one of these homes!!! When the homes were described as disgraceful I don't believe the poster meant that the people were disgraceful, just saying they had a hard life. Maybe so however had better pick the words more carefully. If anyone did any looking at all there are few cties close by, including Haitis second largest. Actually the Citadelle Laferriere is about 10 miles due south, and not near anything else at all. It is quite a sight to see, even from the satellite pictures. If you pull up my map, you can click on the link below the image for the citadel, and it will show you. You can then zoom out (it takes 5 clicks) to see where it is in relation to Labadee.
