I just wanted to confirm--I think I read it takes approx. 45 minutes to drive from the airport to Rum Point. Is this correct?

Yup...about 45 minutes to an hour...each way...

Yes, it takes about 45 minutes to cover the 24.8 miles depending upon the vagaries of traffic.

 

If cruise ships happen to be tendering in Spotts then past history indicates that it can easily reach 1hr 15 minutes or worse. With recent opening of a new stretch of bypss, that may be reduced. I don't think that has been proven yet.

We made this drive on Christmas Eve and that is exactly how long it took us. Wonderful day at the beach. I highly recommend doing this drive and visiting Rum Point.
