Renting private plane for an hour or two

Both of my brothers and SIL are pilots and were thinking of renting a small plane to do some flight seeing. Any suggestions? We have all day tours in Dunedin and Tauranga but will be in Auckland 2-1/2 days before and Sydney 2-1/2 days after. Also going to Christchurch, Melbourne and Hobart.

Can't speak for New Zealand, but in Australia, those with an overseas pilot's license have to jump through a few hoops first. See this link:

For information, an estimate for aircraft hire in Australia is A$190 per hour private hire solo and A$210 dual ... for a C172

It may cost you more to get a check ride than what you will be paying for your sight seeing flight. You will need to check the types of planes available and the minimum number of logged hours that you need in that type of plane.
