Bill S Posted January 31, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2008 We are taking an Avalon river cruise in December with a group. The cruise ends in Vienna. One of our group has a 7:25am flight from Vienna but Avalon cannot provide a transfer that early and the independent shuttle companies only service the city center area. So, does anyone know how far from the city center that Avalon docks it's ships? Is it within walking distance or is a taxi a better choice to get to the city center? Rare steamboats Posted January 31, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2008 Bill S, There are two docking areas in Vienna: Handelskai and Nussdorf. Both are no downtown locations. But anyway as your friends need to go to the airport this doesn´t matter. I assume that Avalon is docking at Handelskai. A 7:25 am flight is pretty early. You have to be at the airport 2 to 3 hours in advance. Therefore a taxi would be the best choice to get there. The ship will order you a taxi in advance which can come directly to the ship´s landing and pick your friends up. It´s about 20 min by car (21.5 km). I hope this link will work and show you the route (text might be in German) http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=de&geocode=5930944993225402877,48.120887,16.562685&saddr=wien,+handelskai&daddr=Ankunftstra%C3%9Fe,+1300+Schwechat,+Austria+(Flughafen+Wien-Schwechat)&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=48.05346,16.457555&sspn=0.662769,1.266174&ie=UTF8&z=12&*****=0 Or try it on your own using "Wien, Handelskai" and "Wien, Schwechat". steamboats
