Smoking on Qm2/Queen Victoria

I was just wondering what the smoking guidelines on either the Qm2 or Queen Victoria are.

We are thinking about taking a trip next year and just wanted to know in advance as things are changing all the time concerning smoking.

Thanks in advance.

Most indoor public/eating areas are smoke free.

You can smoke in the Golden Lion, and it gets quite smoky at times. Smoking is not allowed at lunchtimes, and the ashtrays are courteously removed at 11:59am. I daresay you can smoke in other bars too, didn't really notice.

There is also Churchill's (deck 9 forward, starboard) which is a cigar smokers' den.

You can also smoke on deck, of course, where little huddles of smokers congregate at certain times (watch out for them joggers/power walkers coming through, though).

Chart room, Golden Lion, Commodore club, Casino are all have large smoking areas. Sir Samuel's is the only place for cigars or pipes. Open deck smoking only allowed at the stern.

You can smoke on balconies, but obviously not throw butts overboard. Officially, there is no smoking in corridors, but Cunard still clean and empty the ashtrays they provide when they are used.

Smoking on QV is very restricted, you can only smoke in the Casino area. No other Public rooms.

This is fantastic dont spend much time in the Casino what about balconies though. Just been on Azamara Journey and smoking was not allowed on balconies just in two very small areas of the ship. Glad the QV is strict as well as we on booked on WC 2009.

On the QM2 they have no smoking days on nominated days. There were two on the last cruise we did.

What?? How are these nominated? Should they not at least leave some dark, dank hole for us to do the deed? Do they hand out nicorette gum and patches in the infirmary? And did you notice a decrease in the level of polite behaviour on board? I, for one, can get quite nasty without my puff-puffs.

How about no drinking or no gambling days? Are those open to nomination (of course not, since they bring in revenue!) What is happening to our traditional vices? Soon enough, sailing will just be no fun at all!;)

Michael

Who truly is all for "no smoking" indoors in public rooms, even a bit surprised they apparently allow some bars to have smoking sections.

Traitor:(

Sir Martin

Sorry, S-M, it's just the reality of the situation (at least in the U.S.) to keep them from doing like some of those other lines are doing, and truly taking it all away, IMHO. It pangs me, and I do love a drag (or a drag show, for that matter) when sipping my 'tini. Maybe I have just acclimated too much to NYC laws. But look at the post regarding Azamara, where it appears you cannot even smoke on your own balcony! This is where it could be headed if we are not willing to compromise. But I understand your disappointment in me. I know you were counting on me (not sure how you knew I smoked, but something gave it away...)

How do they accomplish this? Hide all the ashtrays? Put up signs? I'm a nonsmoker, but I can imagine that it would be a shock to a smoker's system to have to take the day off.

Smoking in corridoors, is this a non smoking area, I for one who see's any one smoking near me, when its non smoking will get what they deserve.... i am in recovery from cancer (non smoke related) but know people who are....

For peopel who state we dont complain about the drinking etc need to put this into perspective....smoke gets into peoples clothes, throat's etc...i dont pour alcohol onto your clothes or into your mouth....simple

Let's do a deal. We love your font and punctuation. You love our smoking.

Sir Martin xxx

I suggest that orange cats should be allowed to smoke wherever they want, provided the smell of singed fur doesn't become too noxious.

The ashes may then be disposed of at sea, but only in an area where the sea creatures will not be poisoned.

You can relax, dear Michael. It was two nights (after 6:00pm) they had non-smoking in the Casino. Which meant all the smoking was done across the way in the Golden Lion Pub. I imagine they lost a lot of gambling revenue those two nights, as the place was not nearly as crowded as the other 8 nights.

I met some really neat people during my exiles in the Pub, so I can't say it was all bad. Of course, all those neat people were also smoking. ;)

So happy to hear you are also one of the vice-riddled. We could start a Club Vice--smoking, drinking, gambling, swimming at 2:00am...what do you think?

That sounds more reasonable, and I can deal with having to step over to nearby bar to inhale. Not to spoil the fun, but I have, recently, been making (somewhat) successful (off and on) efforts to stop, so I may be chewing my gum furiously, but still of course joining you in the smokers' bar!

A Vice Club sounds just the thing. Are the hot tubs still open at that hour?

Ah, yes, Michael, you should quit. It's been 5.5 years now, and every breath is like a whiff of vanilla/lemon scented sunshine! :D

(o.k., so I'd sell my soul, my late grandmother...heck, even throw in the family silver for a puff sometimes...)

No, because they put the tub chemicals in at night and they need time to do whatever it is they do and then aren't so chemically the next day.

I can assure you I can find an open pool at 2:00am--I've had practice.
