They went to the cabin number that was printed on the booking receipt and on the cruise card. It was occupied. Then they complained. Please read my earlier posts

Sorry you felt i hadnt read all of your posts but i did go and re read all of them and cannot find any that says they had the same number on the cruise card.

That would have caused some problems as that is where the on board bill will have gone also.

Hope they double checked that also as they may have the girls account on theirs.

Sorry to be a pest here, but your cabin number is not printed on your cruise card anymore.

At least our cruise cards from the Pacific Dawn in November did not have our cabin numbers on them.

This could be a new security thing, so many passengers have their cruise card and their keycard on the same lanyard ring. We certainly did. Therefore if it was misplaced, anyone could get into your cabin.

Towards the end of the cruise, one of the bartenders wrote my cabin number on the back of my card with texta. This of course, had nothing to do with the amount of time I spent at the bar. :D

Same as always I expect. Pick an on topic thread and let it flow away with thread drift.

I think there is a Happyscot theory that all threads go off topic within 10 posts (except tipping, which goes in circles)

On the on-topic part, I reckon it would be annoying having to recite your cabin number for the whole trip (maybe I will give them another cabin number instead  ). At least the "premium cruising" brand (not named to stay on-topic) still has passenger and cabin numbers printed to make it easier for the waiters! The cruisecard and keycard are combined into one, and people wear them around their necks so they do not lose. When you report a missing card, all cards for the room are re-issued with the lock re-coded.

Heres a pic of the 4 berths on the PD, sorry Gail and jen to use you as an example:p xxxx

I am interested to see these pics. The top bunks are a similar set-up to those on the Pacific Sky an the Pacific Star. I have not seen the four berth cabins on the Pacific Sun so cannot comment on these. When closed up, the top bunk extends only a short distance (I guessed 30cm from memory) over the bottom bunks.:)

This Dawn cabin looks way smaller than the 4 berths on the Pacific Sun?

On one of the pics it shows the top bunk touching the bathroom wall?

on the Sun there was plenty of room both sides,U 147 I think it was, the one I was in?

Den, I have to kinda agree there, I know I havent cruised on the PD yet, but did the tour, and the first thing I thought was "wow, these are smaller than the Sun" We were in U178, I know the PD says the 4 berths are .6m2 bigger than the PS, so it must be the layout, the offset bunks, and come to think of it, the bathroom, wardrobe/dressing type area was bigger on the DP, which makes the main cabin part smaller.

For our cruise on the Dawn Aug 10 we have booked a balcony cabin

which was allocated at time of booking

Voyage W823

Room number BC/B151

it is not far from the elevators so I hope its okay

I definitely would not want to be in aquad room and that was a stipulation that our beds would definitely be put together as Queen size bedding

Right next to the BB block, so can't be too bad.

You will definately not be in a quad. All balcony cabins are twins. Would be a heck of a downgrade to be put in a 4 berth - CC at least

Hi Spoona,

I too was on the cruise your parents were on.

I observed no 'elderly' passengers so please tell them they look very young.

The cruise was full of people aged between 18-30 who I must say were beautifully behaved, at least while I was awake. It may have been a different matter after midnight.

Cheers

Megagirl

I'll let them know ! My dad is 79 so he'll be very happy to hear ! :D

My inlaws cruised on Pacific Sun from Brisbane last year and they booked a midship cabin as my Mother in Law suffers seasickness even with medicine. Upon embarkation they were escorted to an Upgrade cabin at front of ship 1 deck up.

Same size room etc just up the front.

When they said they NEED midship and would like their booked cabin, they were told they could not have it as it was already occupied by another upgraded traveller from a lower deck.

Effectively no choice in the matter, they did eventually after 1 hour of arguing get a cabin slightly closer to midship but still 1/4 from the bow NOT the middle as booked.

Is there some way to FLAG *do not upgrade me* on bookings???

I do not understand upgrades to same grade cabins just 1 deck up - what's the point in that? Mini suites etc that ARE a better grade fair enough but why shuffle people about when it doesn't produce a better cruising experience? I guess it depends on your point of view of what an upgrade is!

Whoey,

When you book, you can ask the agent to tick the box that say upgrad/no upgrade. If you book a specific cabin and pay the category price for it and TELL them thats the cabin you want, you should get it, although, they can keep you in that category but change the cabin.

If you pay for a cruise "special" you will get any cabin they allocate, and may not know till day of boarding.

When I booked Tahiti, I paid top $$$ for an inside on Aloha which I picked, I do not want an upgrade, as I could go down to the bottom and have a window. The last November cruise on the PS, we booked very cheap Tgrade cabins, (bunks) hoped for an upgrade, which didnt happen, although others around us had booked Tgrade and ended up in inside queens:rolleyes: On the Dawn Princess next year we have booked special on JJ category, they cannot downgrade us, but I have asked them to mark the box for upgrade if the opportunity arises.

So, I guess you just have to make it clear if you want a particular cabin/grade and let them know.

We're also booked on the Pacific Dawn on 10 August. We were able to select our cabin at booking "Category DD - Cabin no C186" but also had them tick the Upgrade option. So I guess we'll see what will happen. Hopefully if the upgrade fairy is nice we'll end up on your deck with a balcony :D Christine

It seems like an odd choice to me to take a cruise when you have a big problem with sea sickness

April 26 -3 rd May-Splendor Mexican Riviera-Balcony guarantee

May 4-8 may 2009 Carnival Paradise Baja cruise Oceanview Guarantee

Currently looking at May 9 following first 2 cruises Sapphire Princess

7 night cruise Los Angeles- Vancouver- Pacific Coastal cruise.

I hope we like cruising because if Not we will be in TROUBLE

Wow so many cruises. This is our first also and we are really looking forward to it. Since hearing from a lot of people on here how wonderful a Balcony cabin is I'm tempted to just pay more and just go ahead and book one. Our last big vacation was to Europe but that was very hectic, so it'll be a nice change just cruising for ten days.

I run a seven day week accommodation business so now our holidays are about R and R (my husband also has a full time job (shift work)as well 2 hours away

That being said I hope we enjoy cruising.

The carnival ones are 2009 and I am paying them off.

This years cruise I have probably $1200-1300 left to pay.

I pay $100 weekly to a Travel agent and top it it up closer to take off date

I hear you there. My partner has his own business and I also have a very stressfull occupation which I love.. Won't say in a public forum though what I do. So we're hoping we love the cruise too. It seems if you do, it soons become very addictive. I've travelled all over the world so cruising is completely new to me. It'll be our honeymoon for us, both our second marriage but still exciting. The other half proposed to me at my 50th last December. Quite a shock since we've been together nearly ten years. Anyway back to cruising. Come on August!

Hope you get your balcony.

CC and C category cabins are also classed as upgrades too. Instead of mid on caribe, you could be upgraded to extreme forward or extreme aft on Aloha or Baja. Looking at the deckplan, there is something unappealing about A216 and A225 and hard to believe they are ranked in the best block of outside cabins. Is a strange system that says the higher the deck, the better the cabin.
