gypsealin Posted February 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2008 Are people still getting the Marriott Circular Quay when they bid on Priceline for a 5 star hotel in Sydney CBD? If so, how much do you have to bid? Also, how far in advance can you bid? Has anybody ever gotten another hotel besides this one when bidding 5 star in Sydney CBD? Linda-E Posted February 27, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 27, 2008 We got five nights at the Marriott for $155 per night. Others on our cruise paid as little as $140 per night for a shorter stay. Rare MMDown Under Posted February 27, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2008 If you want to get accommodation closer to the date, wotif.com is a good website for discounted accommodation.
swdke Posted February 27, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 27, 2008 Winning Priceline bids range from $140 to $167.
M&A Posted February 28, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 28, 2008 We stayed at the Marriot Circular Quay prior to our cruise last April. The hotel is ideally situated close to the quay, we just wheeled our cases over to the ship the day of the cruise. We bid on Priceline and got it for $150, my daughter stayed there a few weeks ago and we bid on-line again and this time got it for $165. The price probably depends on the time of year, higher price in Jan/Feb and cheaper in April.
Rare MMDown Under Posted February 28, 2008 #7 Share Posted February 28, 2008 January is usually the cheapest month to get accommodation in Sydney because it is our summer school holidays, so there are less businessmen in the city. As a result, there are many summer specials, such as the Accor chain, etc.
TenerifeSharon Posted February 28, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 28, 2008 We just returned from our Mercury NZ/AUS cruise. I had bid for a 5* Sydney hotel 11 months before our arrival date -- won the Marriott Sydney Harbour at $151 (Feb. 17-20). Also bid for a 4* from Feb. 24-26, and won the Marriott on College St. for $135 per night. Although the College St. Marriott is a couple of minutes farther away from the pier, most all the rooms have a kitchenette and are more comfortable and a bit larger than the Sydney Harbour Marriott rooms. Since we were on the ship overnight in Sydney, we brought most of our luggage to the hotel the day before disembarking and checked it with the bellman. When we left the ship the next day, we were able to walk off the ship with just our hand luggage and not have to wait for a "color" to be called. You might want to know that the Marriott will not guarantee check-in until 2 or 3 PM. So, unless you are willing to pay for an upgrade (Opera house view cost $50 more per night, executive floor $110), you may have to wait until the afternoon to get into your room. The Marriott Sydney Harbour does have a small "waiting" room with coffee, shower etc. for those guests whose rooms are not yet available.

Our flight from Canada arrived at 06:30, and we got to the Marriot around 8 AM. Our rooms weren't ready at that time but they offered the immediate check-in with the $50 a night upgrade, we took it and got the Opera House room view.
