CruisinMermaid Posted February 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2008 I think the thing that sticks in my mind the most was eating in the dining room the first night. When we were done with dinner we weren't sure what to do since dining on land meant having to pay a bill at the end. We kind of looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders and finally got up to leave. I also loved watching the city go by as we left port. And waking up the next morning and looking out the window to see where we were. What's your memorable memories from your first cruise?
EricaLovesCats Posted February 24, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2008 When the waiters started dancing, we had no idea what the heck was going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We wanted to make a break for it, but like you we didn't know if we could just "leave" or what! :p
lmtrn2001 Posted February 24, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2008 My first cruise was on Carnival Paradise. My first cruise memory is of actually seeing the ship for the first time while arriving at the Port of Miami. That was an amazing experience seeing her for the first time.:) It doesn't matter how many pictures you see of the ships before you go, they are always AWESOME to see when you go aboard!!!:D
balcony bound Posted February 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2008 I have enjoyed every cruise I have taken, but boy, that first one was so wonderful in every way. What I remember most is that I had never been that relaxed in my entire life. When we got home (we only live 10 minutes from the port, so no stress involved) we couldn't even speak or function. I was in some sort of "mode" for days, and didn't want to give it up! Ahhhhhh.

ken06kim Posted February 24, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 24, 2008 I'll never forget the size of the ship the first time I saw it. Maxax Posted February 24, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 24, 2008 1st cruise...Conquest out of NOLA...freaked at how much the ship listed as we made our turns down the Mississippi. A ship that Big...tilting as we made tight turns down the river! Of course...there was that first time I looked off the side of our balcony...just to see...all the other floors, balconies, size of the ship as it just went on and on forever...and thought..."Man, they're serious about this!" cuppycakemom Posted February 24, 2008 #11 Share Posted February 24, 2008 I'll never forget the size of the ship the first time I saw it. I will also never forget that first cruise because I got married on the ship before it left port. What an awesome cruise. Ditto this one for me. Our first cruise was our wedding! We had 50 people sailing with us, and it was AMAZING! I espcially won't forget that we were so wrapped up in the wedding stuff that we had NO CLUE that we had already left port, while we taking pictures after the reception! We went out on deck to have some pics taken and we were already surrounded by water!!
Doug&Suzy-Q Posted February 24, 2008 #12 Share Posted February 24, 2008 You made me sit and think about this....... The very first cruise?....was in Tampa....in the waiting lounge prior to boarding.......looking at the ship......I got teary eyed.......looking at the ship thinking....oh my goodness......I cannot believe we are actually going on a cruise. Thinking back 20-30 years.....how can we.....us....actually afford such a luxury. We now think how blessed we are............to be able to afford such a wonderful vacation. Now....every cruise we take, I still get tears in my eyes when we first view the ship..............how wonderful...how blessed we are.
logbook Posted February 24, 2008 #13 Share Posted February 24, 2008 It was absolutely seeing the Sensation when we arrived in Tampa. I was in tears. It was an unbelievable feeling!
boundingmaynard Posted February 24, 2008 #14 Share Posted February 24, 2008 What's your memorable memories from your first cruise? I am pretty sure my wife had lift my jaw from the floor as we boarded the ship, it was so much more than I was expecting, it was magnificent. Now every time we turn someone new on to cruising I get to re-live my first reaction through that person. It is almost as good as the first time. pe4all Posted February 24, 2008 #16 Share Posted February 24, 2008 Throwing streamers off the side of the ship in NY during our Bon Voyage celebration at sail-away , and having the NY City Fire Dept. boats shooting giant arcs of water out of their boat hoses "escorting" us out of NY Harbor! So cool, and so missed!
cruisetobeaches Posted February 24, 2008 #17 Share Posted February 24, 2008 Our first cruise was on the Inspiration out of Tampa. I wasn't too excited about the whole cruise concept until I got on the ship. It too my wife years to talk me into it, and now I can't get enough:D My most memorable moment was walking on the ship for the first time and seeing the expansive atrium...............And this isn't even one of the BIG ships. cruisecruisecruise1234567 Posted February 24, 2008 #18 Share Posted February 24, 2008 ok...my dumb questions for you:Free Foo Foo??? splain yourself...please. quote] When you board (older ships, years ago) they would always have trays of drinks and are trying to hand you one, well if you did not know better, they are not free.LOL Now you board where there are no waiters with trays of drinks so its hard to make that mistake. cherylscruises Posted February 25, 2008 #19 Share Posted February 25, 2008 Most memorable moments of first cruise are a little fuzzy because it was back in 99 and havent gone again since. But I do remember the "awww" -ness of everything from the first site of the ship as our bus entered the port to the first view of the atrium. From the waiters dancing around as they served desserts to the towel animals found on our beds afterwards. Oh, and somewhere in there I do remember hugging a palm tree..... my first palm tree so it just had to be done! But in only 58 days I can start making more memorable cruise moments and I can hardly wait!!!

Rare angelsfort Posted February 25, 2008 #22 Share Posted February 25, 2008 I remember the feeling of "awe" as we walked on the ship the first time... but my favorite "first cruise" memory is from my step-childrens first cruise (it was my husband and I's 3rd cruise) my step-son was 4 years old at the time... we were going on a Disney Cruise. Everyone was so excited to be going on this cruise, until we got to the terminal and were in the "waiting area" to board the ship. If you've ever been on a Disney cruise, you'll know that to get onto the ship, you have to walk through the Mickey Mouse shaped doorway... they've got a rounded doorway with two smokestacks on either side forming Mickey's shape... we waited for a good hour or more before we finally got in the queue to board the ship... and everything was dandy! But once we got in the queue, my step-son started whining that he'd changed his mind and didn't want to go! He wanted to go back home to his mothers house (and he HATED being with his mom!) and he'd see us when we got back... after about a half hour of hearing him crying and whining, I finally took him out of the line to talk to him in a quiet place, I wanted to find out why he'd suddenly changed his mind. After a few minutes of calming him down, he finally told me that he was afraid of how we had to get on the ship. He didn't want to climb up into the smokestacks and slide down into the ship!! LOL After I explained to him that he only had to walk through the doorway (and I took him over there to show him) he was much better!
Rare jrmende63 Posted February 25, 2008 #23 Share Posted February 25, 2008 Our first ( and the one that made us an Addict!)cruise was on the Carnival Spirit, to Alaska. I will never forget seeing the ship for the first time. I had tears in my eyes at finally being on the ship:) We loved the Spirit and Alaska and hope to make that intinerary our Platinum for Carnival. dolfansam Posted February 29, 2008 #24 Share Posted February 29, 2008 I'll never forget the size of the ship the first time I saw it. I will also never forget that first cruise because I got married on the ship before it left port. What an awesome cruise. There is something special about seeing the ship for the first time. Each cruise, I still get the same feeling. My favorite memory of my first cruise is being out on the Lido Deck after the ship left the port in Baltimore. Aboout 30-45 mins later, the cruise director told everyone to look up as the ship passed under the bay bridge and it did not look like it would clear. I also remember my excitement as I watched the ship pull into port in the Bahamas and realizing that I was going to step on to foreign soil for the first time in my life. I was like a little kid at Christmas time.
