Why do you go on a cruise?

Don't be lonely,talk to us. I did know someone who had his wife and girlfriend on the same ship together without the wife knowing! He probably need a vacation after his vacation. What an idiot.

First of all, the sheer excitement of embarkation day!!! :D

 

Arriving at the port, seeing our ship for the 1st time, walking up the gangplank (tears of joy are usually welling up in my eyes at this point—I wonder if anyone else does this), hearing our cards ding, finding our stateroom, walking in, opening the slider & stepping out on our balcony, stowing our carry-ons, heading out to explore the ship and having lunch at the Ocean Cafe. We have arrived! :D

 

Then follows the cruise itself...sail-away, fabulous sea days, the smell and view of the ocean, the motion of the ship, the people we meet and the ports of call.:D

My vacation starts the second I leave work! I head home, check my last minute items and try to get a good nights sleep. That usually doesn't happen because I'm so excited about cruising. Once I set my eyes on that ship sitting at the dock I feel a tremendous burden just lift off my shoulders and float away! As I walk up the gangway I feel lighter and lighter. I never get tired of looking at the blues and greens of the every changing water. Smelling the salty air!!! Shall I go on?..............

First cruise - wanted to do something special for our honeymoon, during the middle sevenities, at a time when cruising was really a luxury

 

European Cruises - a great way to see a lot of different places without the hassles of multiple flights

 

Caribbean Cruises - a wonderful refuge from cold winters in the Northeast where the ship is the main destination and the ports are just an extra

 

Alaskan Cruise - one of the best ways to see a beautiful area that is not nearly as accessible by land. we also did that cruise before that itinerary had so many ships doing it, so it was very relaxing

 

Cruises are also a great way to spend quality time with friends and family who currently live far apart from each other.

 

However, in spite of all the great reasons to cruise, I don't feel that any cruise is better than no cruise. Itinerary (with the exception of Caribbean Cruises), prime season for the desination, service, size of cabin, as well as the condition and quality of the ship itself, are very important to me.

 

I also feel that one of the best things about cruising is that it provides a real vacation from the stress and responsibilities of every day life, but you need to refrain from using cell phones and computers to maximize that benefit.

What wonderful reasons to cruise! Not much to add but -

 

The anticipation fired by the message boards! This is a terrific buildup and in some cases the followups are wonderful too - our 10/05 Mercury cruise board is still going!

 

Being able to keep in touch with the office and not come home to unsolved problems - realize this is not the popular reason of getting away from it all but our first cruises meant coming back to problems - no longer - I travel with my laptop, connect to the office daily by email and forget it all the rest of the day.

 

We go for the ocean, the ambiance, the lack of making major decisions and of course, the chance to meet some terrific people.

 

Cruising is our hobby - the sea our delight.

We, started cruising in earnest in 2003. The kids are gone, there are now only the two of us and the dogs of course and it is the best way to get away from it all. It serves two purposes. It recharges you and it gets you away from it all of the daily problems and issues. We both work full time and plan these things far enough ahead to give ourselves plenty of time to get the trip set up. The worst part is the wait. We cruise also to see some things we may never see again in our lifetime, maybe. Cruising is the best way to go because once you get there you unpack, or maybe not, and you don't have to worry about moving every other night. The ship does it for you and in most cases it's all prepaid. Any additional cash you spend is up to you. And you avoid the traffic and the rush. I mean you can rush around going on tours or you can do your own leasurely thing. Just don't miss the ship! As for taking home with me, I left it behind to get away, it will be there when I get back and so will any of the problems. Some people will say that cruising is expensive. Hogwash! We went to Disney World last year and dropped over $3000 dollars. That's a 7 day cruise in the Caribbean without the rushing around to catch a shuttle bus.

 

Simply put, can't beat it!!

1. get away from phones, faxes, computers for a couple of weeks

 

2. see some out of the way place that I probably would not fly to (Manta Ecuador comes to mind)

 

3. get REALLY dressed up and bask in the ambiance of "old style" cruising and cruising traditions.

 

Sadly, 1 and 3 are rapidly falling by the wayside. I believe my cruising days are coming to an end.

Sitting on a balcony in the middle of the ocean creates a special ambiance that is unique to cruising, and makes it easy to refrain from using cell phones and computers. I think anyone who uses a computer or cell phone to keep in touch with their home base during a cruise has never experienced the best part of cruising.

 

I could not agree more!! The time on the ship is for DH and I to reconnect and forget about everything else. We love sitting on our balcony in the middle of the night and listening to the ebb and flow of the sea. Very Zen!

I love the ocean .Just got off Caribbean Princess and loved the Balcony

I like to sleep to sound of gentle waves and soothing rocking

At night I like to star gaze onthe balcony while all are sleeping

Love to snorkle and Carib is great for that on many islands -I just purchased on Carib Princess a mask with my prescrition in it .How great is that????No more trying to fit my glasses in ....

I like to dress up and be served a fabulous dinner followed by a great show and a hop to the Casino

I am now in love with MUTS I think all ships should have this

What fun to lie under the sun or under the stars and watch a movie

At night we even had blankets ( I actually dozed off I was so COMFORTABLE !!!)

No cooking No cleaning

The best vacation is cruising

Did I mention shopping

Sometimes I find great stuff

I love to travel cruising is just my cup of tea !!!

I just got around to reading this posting. Your words were absolutely beautiful. As I was reading your listing, I was saying "this person has read my mind". What a great job. You have said it all.

I cruise because:

 

I visit many places with only having to unpack and repack once.

 

I love the ocean.

 

I can do as little or as much as I want and have a great time.

 

It is a great value for my money - especially where the $ is weak.

 

And the most important reason - I never have to have a two hour discussion with my husband concerning where we will have dinner or what we will do in the evening. Priceless! :)
