Ok, just booked a last minute cruise on Princess where we fly into San Juan, we can't find one of our passports. Since it is US terr. do we need one or is a birth certificate and drivers license enough? Hopefully we will be able to find his...I told him I should hold it but he said no...and know I am just wondering what to do?

Passports are not needed to enter Puerto Rico, it's just like flying to another state. All you need at the airport is a valid drivers' license or other government I.D. when checking in at the airport. If you're leaving on a cruise from Puerto Rico it may be another matter. Ken...

Putting aside the issue of whether you can cruise without it, a lost passport is a serious matter. If I'm reading your "signature" correctly, you don't leave until 22 March -- that's plenty of time to inform the State Dept. that the passport has been lost and request an expedited replacement. But I don't think you should just ignore it since you don't need it for this trip -- if it's well and truly lost, then you really should take action. They're valuable documents and you don't want it floating around out there uncancelled. Just my take on this, for what it's worth.

The WHTI does not require passports for RT from the US cruises (Puerto Rico included) now or after the full implementation (recently moved back further to June 2009).

It would still be a wise idea to find the missing passport, however, just to be able to fly home in an emergency. But you can take your cruise without it--but do get a replacement after the cruise if it is truly lost.

If it is any help, my mother in law just applied for her passport (for our April cruise) 2 weeks ago and received it this weekend. And, that was without the expedited service.

There is also a Passport servie center in NYC if you are traveling within 14 days that you can get an appointment with and get a very expedited passport.

Thank you for all the help. I know the passport is in our house...I have seen it...just can't remember where and I didn't want to worry that we "had to find it before we leave"...I know it is here, it just happens to be misplaced. You can blame my other have for the misplacement as I know exactly where mine is!!!
