Say Azamara Restaurant staff. Quest and Journey will be in the Med in Mid April. How about serving some local wines from each port as a special that evening. Get your wine stewards together and send one ashore at each port and buy some local wines representative of the area. Offer them by the glass each evening, priced in the $6 to $9 range and watch the passengers drink them up. Just think, you might even make a little profit and it would be the talk of dining room. Crazy idea??

PS: I will volunteer to help and taste. Anybody else?

You must be joking! Do you think a Celebrity product would be that innovative? Not only won't they deviate from their home office designed wine list, they also discourage (or prohibit) passengers from bringing local wines aboard for cunsumption...even if the passengers are willing to pay the outrageous corkage fee. Years ago, when we cruised in Europe, we often bought local wines and brought them to various cruise ship dining rooms to drink. We seldom paid any kind of corkage fee, but we always left some win in the bottle for our waiters. But these days, the cruise lines like to mark-up their wines by as much as 600% and that takes priority over the passengers enjoyment of local wines.

Hi Hank. I have a solution. We stock up on some wines in Bari, bring them back one or two per passenger, take them to the dining room, pay their fees, then have everybody around us come over for a tasting. Better yet, try it in the bar. We are too far from HO for them to care.

Remember high end small ship 5* cruise lines even let the passengers go with the chef on local market buying trips. Now that's a shore excursion.!!! Come on Azamara, think outside the BOX!!

Andy: We need to get this up the ladder. Who do you know?

Pinot,

I like your idea! They could do a lot with the small ship concept, and this is a good example of what might succeed.
