Columbian unrest

Saw today that Venezuela has moved military tropps to the border with Columbia. Has anyone heard whether Princess is considering removing Cartegena as a port now for the Panama 10 day because of this?

I see now that Ecuador has also moved troops to the Colombian borders. Would be extremely interested to know how Princess is monitoring this situation and whether they are preparing an alternative port. Any speculation what the substitution might be if necessary?

Several years ago when we did the Canal, they pulled Cartagena and substituted a Mexican port--I think Hualtuco.

For quite a while Princess did not go there and went to Isle Margarita. There have also been other ports used or an additional sea day added. Princess will decide based on port availability but will definitely not go to an area where anyone might be in harms way.

In '05, they dropped Cartagena for Isla Margarita due to civil unrest. I guess they're still, "unresting", :eek:

When ended up with an additional sea day when it happened during our Royal Princess Panama Canal partial transit. We were scheduled to stop on our way from the canal to Aruba.

We are scheduled to be there on 10 Mar. There have no postings on the Embassy's web page or additional travel warnings. There are no reports of civil unrest in the cities, just Chavez acting up again on the boarder. He's all bark, I'm willing to bet all of the tours will go as planned.

Hope it is all bark! We would be only inconvienced. The people living there would find it much harsher.

If there was anything to worry about (and there isn't) it would be from the FARC. It was the FARC's #2 guy that the Colombians whacked in Ecquador. Believe it or not, Colombia is safer now.
