Embarkation in San Juan

I"m sure this has been asked before, but the search is not working..... again.

The ship sails at 11pm, has been in port since 6am. Can you board normal time? 12ish? Will it be possible to go out to Bioluminescence Bay before sailing?

Princess's price for the Sheraton & transfers is actually reasonable. Decent, clean hotel?

Thanks.

Normal boarding times apply in San Juan. We have done a couple of B2B cruises out of there and stayed onboard between cruises waiting for friends to join us for the second week. Each time the first people were allowed onboard at noon.

The Sheraton Old San Juan is a good hotel. But check to see if you can get it on your own for less. You don't need transfers in San Juan. You can get a taxi from the airport to the hotel for $19 (for the taxi) plus $1 per bag. Then the next morning, because the Sheraton is right across the street from the pier Princess uses, you just drag your bags across the street.

You don't say what pier the ship leaves from or what ship you are on. When we sailed from SJ the ship did not leave from Pier 4 in OSJ but the pier across the harbor by the executive airport. You would need transfers if that is where you board the ship. We were on a Panama Canal cruise about a year ago. You could board at the usual time and then go back into town if you wanted to. I looked at the Bioluminescence Bay but all the recommendations say due to its distance you need to stay overnight on the island. Did you check to see if you even have the light you need at the "moon watch" here: http://www.biobay.com/cd/webhtml/moonwatch.htm

Thanks for all the info!

We are considering the Caribbean Princess. We are planning on spending the night before the cruise. It is a light night. I'll check into going out there on that night.

I just came back from the Crown Princess and we boarded the ship around 12:30 and had no problems. We stayed on our return night at the Sheraton. Very nice hotel compared to the Radisson we stayed at prior. We just walked our luggage accros the street to the hotel with no problem. If you can get on the 9th floor of the Sheraton you'll be very close to the outdoor pool.

Beware: There's an extremely overamplified duo playing in the casino on Friday and Saturday nights until 2AM. Their stage is at the back street side of the hotel. Do not accept a room at the rear. The sound will carry into your room, especially the electronically generated bottom bass boom boom booms!!!:(
