Whamsey Posted March 7, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2008 The Wedding Chapel. This light-wood paneled space with its angel fresco feels important and it should. Real weddings are conducted here by the ship's captain when Carnival Spirit is in Canadian waters (he is even authorized to marry same-sex couples). It's also the venue for vow renewals. I copied the above from an overall reveiw of the Carnival Spirit. Can they really marry same sex couples on their ships ? I think thats WONDERFUL....anyone experienced this while on one of their cruises ?
6rugrats Posted March 7, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2008 Note that this can be done only in Canadian waters. Probably because same sex marriages are legal in Canda. No, never experienced this and had not heard of this before now.
nybumpkin Posted March 8, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2008 Carnival's Website indicates that captains cannot perform wedding ceremonies. I think I've read that the countries in which their ships are registered do not allow captains to officiate. They can officiate at vow renewals. The chapels on the Spirit-class ships are very nice.
