Used to be Bumbas, I think, .. I don't like the Blue Monkey or what they have done to that spot on Payne's Bay.. but I love Payne's Bay.. You can still go, just enter a little north of the bar at the public walkway and walk down to the beach. Very nice..

I've attached a link to a thread that has our recent (January) experience at the beach by Blue Monkey:

If you head over there, don't let anyone get you a chair - head down the beach and find yourself a nice stretch of sand, put down a towel and enjoy the day - something we certainly weren't able to do at Blue Monkey!

Such a shame about this Blue Monkey place

and the effect it seems to have on the whole beach scene there?

-a very nice beach, I might add...as are most of our West Coast beaches.

here's a shot of Paynes Bay that I took, from offshore.

I STILL DON'T KNOW BETWEEN ACCRA, OR PAYNE, AND SANDY LANE.... WHICH WOULD BE MORE LAYED BACK,... I JUST WANT THE PRETTYEST SCENERY ... DON'T CARE ABOUT CHAIRS AND STUFF LIKE THAT...

no need to shout. Paynes Bay (not down by the Blue Monkey is a very nice beach. Laid back etc, but at present there is some contruction going on. So my next choice would be Accra Beach. It can get busy, but it is fairly laid back, and if you want something to eat or drink there are several places (like De Rock Bar in the little Kiosk Area) where you can get something.

Enjoy.

by the way.. this thread referred to Blue Monkey and not the other 2.

  • 6 months later...

I have heard that the guys walking around trying to sell stuff in the Paynes Bay area can be extreamly persistant & will not leave you alone!! To the point that it can ruin the whole experience!!

Can anyone comment on this, what did you experience?

Aplmac, lovely picture. Did you take it with your D60? What lens?

that I had read something about this problem. A boat tour seems to perhaps be a better idea plus you will swim with the turtles.

Thanks! The picture was with my old reliable HP (about 8 MP) and takes some pretty good pictures once you have it set up right.

I would like a new Nikon, but just can't break down & pay the high price. Besides, I originally went to the HP so that I wouldn't end up carting around all the photo acessories & addittional lenses for my film camera.

Decisions ... decisions .. decisions!

The (bum!) ACCRA link above(sorry!!) can now be seen at URL..

http://www.*****.com/Accra.html

All those shots at Accra were taken, over the years, with two Canon Powershots

with zooms backing off to just 35mm. (equivalent)

That Paynes Bay shot, above taken from offshore was taken with one of the Canon Powershots

probably on a tele setting, if that's the one you refer to..?

Most shots taken with the D60(new,recent) I've posted at the CC PhotoGallery..

http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/index.php

using Nikon's 18-55mm. 'kit' lens which is very capable!

Thanks, Aplmac. It was your off-shore Payne's Bay pic I was talking about. I love the shots you took with the super-wide!

I bought a D60 recently, too, and took some really nice shots out west this summer, mostly with the 55-200 mm VR I bought at the same time. That 10-20 may have to be my next purchase.

I'm looking forward to this January's cruise and getting to use my new toy in the Caribbean!
