kajsb Posted September 26, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted September 26, 2004 After she finishes this segment of the Canal, she will again be viewed from the Centinnel Bridge cam in an hour or so (give or take 15 minutes each way). It's 7:42 am PST right now and she is still in the MiraFlores locks. http://www.kroooz-forums.com/ports/centennial.htm

kajsb Posted September 26, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted September 26, 2004 She still has the Gatun locks to go through. I'm keeping the window open while I'm home. I've heard that it could be as early as 12:30 pst when she enters the Gatun locks.

jnnifer01 Posted September 26, 2004 #13 Share Posted September 26, 2004 I never realized that it takes so long to traverse the canal. How long is it from one end to the other (travel time and mileage)?
kajsb Posted September 26, 2004 Author #14 Share Posted September 26, 2004 On average, a vessel will take between 8 to 10 hours to transit. This information was obtained from the Panama Canal website.
jnnifer01 Posted September 26, 2004 #15 Share Posted September 26, 2004 Wow- I never realized it was so long! I hope to do a Panama Canal cruise someday. It's on my list :) You're a wealth of information, Kathy! Thanks
mohavemommy Posted September 26, 2004 #16 Share Posted September 26, 2004 Just looked at the Gatun locks, looks like they're getting heavy rain now..... http://www.kroooz-forums.com/ports/gatun.htm
kajsb Posted September 26, 2004 Author #17 Share Posted September 26, 2004 From another forum I've been on, I learned that they are having heavy rain showers right now. That's why the visability is so bad. The Ecstasy should be 70 minutes behind the Evergreen containership that is just finishing up.

kajsb Posted September 26, 2004 Author #21 Share Posted September 26, 2004 From Pacific to Atlantic, they first go through the Miraflores locks, then under the Centenial Bridge and then through the Gatun Locks. I do have pictures of it going under the bridge here: http://community.webshots.com/album/192156745hIxisr
kajsb Posted September 26, 2004 Author #22 Share Posted September 26, 2004 All together, it took the Ecstasy about 8 hours to traverse the Panama Canal. I am looking forward to the day when I can make this voyage.
karenh1127 Posted September 26, 2004 #23 Share Posted September 26, 2004 Who are the people I see on the decks in your pics? I thought she was going into drydock so I guess I figured she would only have minimal crew. Do you have the pics of her going thru the Gaton locks? I missed it all! kajsb Posted September 26, 2004 Author #24 Share Posted September 26, 2004 This was an Ecstasy sailing (with passengers) from Long Beach to Miami. After disembarking the passengers in Miami, she will go through the refurbishing. The link to the pictures I captured from the webcam is below. The pictures are named. She first went through the Miraflores locks, under the Centennial Bridge and finally through the Gatun Locks. The whole thing trip through the Canal took about 8 hours. http://community.webshots.com/album/192156745hIxisr
