Airport Transfers ex Civitavecchia/Athens

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

We will be taking a Black Sea cruise on the Prinsendam out of Rome departing on Oct. 16, 2008 and returning from Athens on Oct. 30 or perhaps a day or two later. We are wondering about transfers/shuttle from the airport in Rome to the pier area and the reverse in Athens.

Does anyone have any suggestions on saving a few bucks in this regard and if some amongst you have hotels to recommend close by the pier in each city, we would welcome recommendations. We plan on doing a couple of days touring in each city.

Thanks a bunch.

We stayed at the Ariston in Rome. A very small, cute Venetian hotel. Nothing too fancy, but it was very close to the Colosseum. We then took the train to the port and it was very easy. I could possibly give your more info, but I know not everyone is interested in taking the train as a mode of transport.

Be careful about relying on trains in Italy. It is well known they strike and stop running with great frequency and little or no notice.

We almost never used cruise ship transportation but both times we sailed into Civitevecchia, we used HAL's bus and it worked out fine. We have traveled many times to Italy doing land/air trips and knew the distance and location of the port is far enough and inconvenient enough (in our opinion) that we opted for the transfer to Rome.

Have a GREAT cruise. Sounds wonderful.

Hello again,

Can anyone make recommendations for the port city. We plan to stay only one night after our flight from Vancouver and then board our cuise ship the next day.

It needen't be fancy, just have a comfortable bed and perhaps near reataurants.

You'll probably get more specific recommendations if you post this on the Europe/Mediterranean ports forum here.

There's not a lot to offer in Civitavecchia, but if you are ONLY looking for a place to stay for the night, there are a couple of hotels that have been mentioned on that board.

Hi Barcart,

I have researched both Rome and Athens for an inexpensive hotel. We decided on Hotel Traiano in Civitavecchia and Ava Hotel in Athens. Check out tripadvisor dot com for their ratings. You can also search this site. Many people have rated these two hotels highly. Hotel Traiano will also transfer us from the airport to Civit. Remember we haven't stayed at these hotels yet, but we have booked them. Have a wonderful cruise!!

Hope this helps.

Judy

That simply is not true. Almost all strikes are announced months in advance. The Italian government posts all announced strikes on the web. Check out several of my (and others) messages on this board for details.
