jlooneyb Posted March 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 15, 2008 Just booked Caribbean cruise on Independence for Dec. I told travel agent I would like cabin towards back of ship as I have heard it helps with seasickness. I don't know a lot about cabin location, only third cruise and will be 1st balcony. He booked us a balcony OVER the back of the ship. When he called and said he got the room we asked for I was surprised and told him I wasn't sure I wanted that one because of scenery and noise?? He said we have time to change it. What's the pro's and con's of this location??
6MonthsHere6MonthsThere Posted March 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2008 If it is on DECK 10, take it, best view on the ship, sitting on the balcony and just watch the wake of the ship is just so relaxing. Quite a bit more infastructure on the lower decks so the higher the deck the better.
tomko2 Posted March 15, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 15, 2008 Sounds like you have an aft balcony. We always chose aft balconies and not sure what you are referring to when you say "scenery and noise". Generally people recommend that you book centre/midship if you are worried about being seasick. We always sail in aft cabins and have never had any problem with motion nor noise. In terms of scenery, we like the aft better because we have a wider range of view especially with some corner afts. In the link below are some pictures taken of and from aft balconies which may help you decide. I don't have any photos yet of the Independence (cruise next Dec.) but if you search for photos of the Liberty and Freedom afts they will be virtually the same. A nice thing about aft cabins is that the balconies are much larger than the same category on the sides. Kathy:)
jlooneyb Posted March 15, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted March 15, 2008 It's on deck 7 and I don't believe a corner aft. Thanks for replies so far. Looked at pic's, didn't see Liberty or Freedom AFT pic's??
tomko2 Posted March 15, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 15, 2008 A corner aft on Independence will have more structure so sounds like you will be OK. Below is a picture I found of the Freedom of the Seas Aft which is a sister ship to the Independence. Hope this helps. cb at sea Posted March 15, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 15, 2008 Actually, the best location for less motion is midships! But having an aft balcony will give you a larger balcony! Enjoy!
