Man, People Who Book Guarantees Must Be HUGE Whiners!!!

My 10th Carnival cruise is in less than a month, and I checked online earlier this week to check our cabin assignment, because we booked in inside guarantee. We were given E45, which is in inside stateroom on the Empress Deck (obviously, lol). Well, in the past when I've booked guarantees we've ended up on Riviera or Main decks, so I was pleasantly surprised! While I would have preferred something midship or to the aft (because Camp Carnival is all the way aft) I was THRILLED with being placed on Empress and felt this was a great "upgrade." I emailed my PVP to let him know about my upgrade, and he thought I was complaining! I called him and let him know that I was sincere in my happiness about the cabin assignment. He felt that since it was in interior stateroom I might be disappointed. HECK NO! I paid for a guarantee inside room - so to me, an inside room on the Empress Deck is fabulous, and truly the most I should have hoped for. His reaction made me realize that people who book guarantees must generally feel entitled to some fabulous upgrade, even though they're paying rock bottom prices. I just don't get it. Do people really think they will get an oceanview when they pay LESS than the price of in inside Riviera Deck room? Sure, it happens now and again, but seriously - how can people expect something like that?

Oh well, I just had to get that off my chest. I would have been happy on Riviera, since I would have "gotten what I paid for" - and I'm tickled pink to be on Empress (and just a few cabins down from debarkation - we'll be off the ship in record time when the cruise is over). People need to stop feeling entitled, and the world would run much more smoothly and happily. If you want an oceanview, book an oceanview guarantee. If you MUST be on a certain deck, just pay for a particular room. And if you book a guarantee, plan on being HAPPY if you end up in the lowest possible category.

We've got another guarantee booked for October, and if I end up back on Riviera, I'll be thrilled to death to have saved some money with my guarantee booking. And feeling lucky as can be to be on my third cruise this year.

No complaints here either. We're sailing for the first time on carnival, and for the first time booked a guarantee. We paid for an OV guarantee and were upgraded to the Spa deck!!! :) :) We may have been disappointed had we not been moved up at all, but certainly did not feel entitled and would not have complained.

Yeah, I've just booked IS guarantee for the first time, hoping for the UpGrade Fairy to wave her wand over us! However, I discussed with my roomie and said that while it was POSSIBLE we might get an upgrade, it was also highly possible that we would remain in our inside Riviera. We figured if we stay on Riviera, well the only diff is we get a little more exersize but we don't have to pay for it like the gym at home! :D

I agree there are a lot of whiners... I have even seen them whining on this board (where they get nothing but grief from us!)...

My first cruise I booked an inside GTY and got a 5 floor upgrade (NCL). Still a inside but on a good floor and a good middle of the ship position.

This time I booked a GTY balcony (woohoo first balcony) and got a 5cat upgrade! Panorama deck balcony here I come!

However, I would have been happy with any inside cabin or any balcony in the end. I knew what could happen and what may not happen. I think picky people need to pick their cabin and not be so cheap!

My last 3 cruises I booked my cabin and chose my room. Granted I always booked during some sort of sale and got lucky that I would get a 3 category upgrade so for the first 2 cruises I was spoiled with booking an 8A and got an 8D. This past cruise I got an upgrade from the minute I booked I think...I found a deal on a 90 day ticker for in IS so I called my PVP and she told me that she could give me an OV for that price. She didn't ask me which cabin I wanted because it was last minute but we were happy with what we got. Our next two cruises we have Balcony GTYs and we are fine with it. I would have been happy with whatever as long as it had a balcony in all honesty! When I called to make a payment on my upcoming cruise my PVP told me that I have a cabin on the Upper deck which was fine with me and then she said it was aft which had me a bit worried for a moment because we had rough seas our last cruise and I wasn't sure if we became ill because we were in the aft or because it was just that bad. But I got over it and figured that it was fine because people do it all the time. Then she let me know that we had an extended balcony and I was elated! Like I said I would be happy with anything as long as it has a balcony so the fact that this has an extended makes me happy! I am sure that I would have paid more for that if I didn't book a GTY!

I just saw a few complaints on this board about not liking the gty room they ended up with. I have never been on Carnival and will be in just 50 days, I booked a GTY IS, because I don't have a preference where I am really. There is always something you will be close to, and always something you will be far away from (just hope that's not your Muster Station!;)). On RCCL I booked a QTY IS a few times and it worked out fine, never got the upgrade fairy to find me an Oceanview, but there is always hope!

I am hoping that Carnival will find out I've sailed RCCL a few times, and want to impress me by giving me a Balcony or something, wouldn't that rock???:D

Don't you think that sometimes people just look for things to complain about?

I feel so blessed to have gotten an upgrade, my PVP sent me an email yesterday!! 21 days out we got upgraded to the spa deck in the liberty…. I was jumping for joy at work!!! I never expected an upgrade, just makes the cruise a little more special.

We've booked guarantees before, and the rule of thumb must be "If you don't want to settle for the minimum you've booked, book something else."

With ships being filled almost every week, you are subject to the luck of the draw. If you can't live with the bargain basement, don't book it. If you get what you paid for, how on earth can you whine?

We've discovered that you spend very little time in the cabin (unless it is a balcony possibly), so an inside will be the same wherever, as will an outside.

We booked and 4A on our last cruise and wound up on the Verhanda? deck. Still inside but we like inside cabins. I can sleep whenever I want.

Your TA was probably so shocked to find a happy customer he did not know how to take it. Good for you to call him back and let him know you were truly happy and not mad...

WHAT?!?!??!?!?! You mean I won't get a Penthouse Suite eventhough I booked an inside guarantee! I'm writing a letter!!!!!

Only kidding!

That's a great room. We were in that general area on our Paradise cruise years ago and really liked it.

We tend to book a specific room, because I'm such a crazy-woman-planner. And we really like those 9A wrap arounds....but I do see the appeal of booking a guarantee and getting a good room at a great price!

Have a fun cruise!

I look at any room you get with a GTY is better than your office for a week :)

I agree with this poster. We booked our upcoming cruise as inside GTY. Now granted there may be some whiners out there who "expect" an upgrade, but I was counting on what I paid for. Now if the upgrade fairy had paid me a visit, that would have been an extra bonus, but personally all I care is that there is a bed and a shower. Everything else I need is on the rest of the ship! :) Oh by the way, the upgrade fairy did not pay me a visit (assigned R98)and thatis fine and dandy!!! Life is great!!:D

We've chosen our cabin on the Riveria deck (interior) twice and booked interior guarantee twice. On the Miracle we were upgraded to a balcony on the Empress Deck - how sweet it was! :D On our upcoming cruise on the Liberty in April we were upgraded to an interior cabin on the LIdo Deck! Won't have far to go for pizza, burgers and beverages and the pool! But we certainly don't mind those interior cabins - we're not in it that much! All 4 of our cabins have been great! Why would any one ever whine if they're going to be on a cruise rather than being at work?

I think PVPs bring it on themselves, promising or saying that if they book a guarantee they might get an upgrade and many folks dont think its an upgrade unless they get a whole different type of cabin and then are dissapointed because they wanted something free.

Even when I got just about the worst inside on the ship, bottom deck in the aft, I didnt complain. luck of the draw I figured.

We almost always book a gty cabin and I could care less where we are as long as we are on the ship. The only upgrade I would care about is if the balcony was larger which we did get that once. We always book the kids in a inside gty and once they got upgraded to an ocean view with the tender boat in front of it they were very happy because the room was a little larger but they could also care less where they are as long as they are on the ship.

I booked OV guarantee and hoped for a balcony but I got a OV on the Rivera deck which is fine with me because it is a convenient location and is right across from the elevators. With the money I saved we are spending extra time in Italy which is so much cooler than a balcony. I compare the guarantee with a slot machine or winning the lottery. You take your chances and sometimes you win.

Lately with few exceptions I've always booked IS GTY and usually end up because of past guest on an IS on Upper Deck (6).

The only time I've been upgraded out side of the class I booked in was on the Freedom I booked an OV GTY and ended up with a Balcony on Upper deck:p

My actual favorite cabin is 6294, and I've actually been assigned that room 6 times. It's easy for me to crawl back to at the end of the evening when they kick me out of the casino :o :D
