Hello Ron,

we have already seen that you've picked yourself a nice cruise for next year. I am sure you've secured your portside cabin!

Lot's of great places with lot's of history from the British Empire! And to be honest I have looked at the itinerary and thought mmmh, very intriguing.

But first the TransAtlantica and then let's see. Another drawback - no balconies on the Classica:(. (balcony junkies here - you know:o )

Happy Easter!

Helmut

Looking forward to hearing more about your cruise as I booked a Transatlantic on this ship this past weekend. Never sailed with Costa. Somewhat nervous about it since some say the crew was rude and the smoke was bad on the ship. What was your experience?

Thanks!

Not to hijack the thread, but the only time I ever noticed the smoke was in the casino the last night, and even then it wasn't horrible. We didn't encounter rude people either, any more than anywhere else you go. The staff is somewhat ill-informed at times....they just don't know everything about everything on the ship....and I don't think I would expect them to.

I'll be posting a review later too. We had a fabulous time....the wait staff in the dining room (and our table mates) could not have been better!!!!! My kids (12 and 17 yr old boys!!) were anxious to get to the dining room for dinner every night because of them!!!!

Ooops - sorry - didn't mean for my post to come across like I'm really worried. I'm not, really. Can't WAIT to experience my first Costa cruise and I don't think I'll have any problems at all. Learning some Italian out of courtesy.

Looking forward to reading the reviews!

We are all home in one piece and had a fabulous time. Had a small fall right before the muster drill (no big deal, just a little embarrassing), dropped my camera in a toilet in San Juan, one kid had bronchitis (over the counter z pack in San Juan), one kid vomited and I (dr mom) diagnosed strep throat (robbed 1st kids z pack to get us by). All in all, the ship is beautiful, the food was great, the grand suite was fabulous. I will try to write a full review later. Have to get the laundry caught up. Sounds like everyone else enjoyed themselves too. This was our 3rd Costa cruise and we still love it. More later.

OK, good. I'm not the only one who fell. Only mine was on deck nine, right in front of the glass elevators. I was "hurrying" and wearing flip flops. Both feet came out from underneath me and I ended up with a bruised butt, bruised elbow, bruised finger, and bruised ego. The biggest bruise was the ego of course. It took 5 minutes before I could quit laughing and get up. DH and son were no help. And some poor girl came over when I finally stood, and said "I saw you fall, are you okay?" I quickly said yes and let her off the hook, I could tell she was about to laugh again just thinking about it.

My 17 year old was with me when I tripped. Tripped on a step and banged my head on the hand rail at the top of the steps. My son was so helpful and asked me if I was ok. When I told him yes I was ok he then said "good, now can I laugh?" I bet I was a sight in heeled sandals with a life jacket on. We chucked all through the muster drill and then made a bee line back to the cabin to ice my bump. Sailed away with a glass of champagne in one hand and ice bag in the other.

Vol...I am glad you weren't injured futher.

With all these accidents happening, I was wondering if they had anything to do with the new X1 Drinks Package?;)

Skolega (hope everthing is now OK) almoat 96 years ago people sailed with a glass of champagne in one hand and an iceberg in the other.

That was the bad thing. I had only had one drink before the muster drill. I am sure it was the shoes and of course rushing back to the cabin to retrieve the 17 yo life vest that he didn't bring up. X1 paid off for us later though!

And yes, everything is fine. No bruise.

Happy Easter!

Helmut

Hi Helmut,

for our next cruise we wanted to do something exotic and out of the ordinary (not a cruise than is like a bus line "the next cruise ship will be along in 5 minutes"9, we narrowed it down to 3 options:

INDIAN OCEAN: Seychelles very exotic but decided against it, the Europe is not among my favourite Cosat ships. The repositioning cruises to long (28 and 25 days), we would rather sepnd a week on safari and then a week in the Seychelles.

SOUTH AMERICA: The Romantica repositioning to Buenos Aires via the Amazon, great price but what put us off was the length - 28 days. I hoping that Costa will be doing regular Amazon cruises in the next year or so.

MIDDLE TO FAR EAST: 8 countries in 19 days (I sound like the Japanese visitors to Europe 6 countries in 20 hours). Price was OK, itinerary was perfect. So we jumped at the chance. Like you we are also Balcony Junkies after our Med transatalntic cruise last year. The classica ha NO balconies, so to help me overcome oud disappointment and help me to sleep without a balcony - we ordered the X1 package but to be used purely for medicinal purposes. ;)

I envy you on your upcoming transatlantic cruise. Are you doing the 16 or 18 days cruise?

Have a great cruise.

Ron

Hmmmm.... Champagne before the muster drill. I like that idea. May make the drill go back quicker....

Costa Classica suites have balconies...we had one on our Emirates trip last year and it was fabulous!!

I was told all the suite (all ten of them) were sold out even before the catalogue came out. :(

Luckily this cruise is for the iteinary and the ship is not so important.

How did you like the Classica?

Skolega---I feel your pain...My son's knee re-opened as soon as he got on the waterslide Sunday and completely un-did the stitches on Monday. If it wasn't for Linda and Chantal, I would've freaked out.

Then, I got strep throat on Tuesday! Strange that your friend got it too. I wonder if we got it from the same source? Nah, that would be too wierd.

Even though we had some speed bumps on this cruise (to include the red-flagged beaches at 2 ports) my family had a GREAT vacation, and it seems like yours did too. We'll have to do it again soon!

PS--My boys were looking for Joe, but we must've missed each other. Did you go to the meeting on Monday? Did we miss you somehow?

We quite liked the Classica although the food wasn't that brilliant and we found it to be quite noisy as the stairs had no carpet on so the sounds echoed. The suite of course was very spacious and comfortable. We preferred it to the Serena which in our opinion is too big for our taste....but of course some people prefer the larger ships. Like you it was the itinerary which was the priority and only the Classica did it last year!

Little misunderstanding....my friend got the bronchitis chest stuff, my 11 yo was the one that came down with the strep. Daughter had bronchitis. We were able to buy over the counter z pack in San Juan but a script was needed in St. Martin for my friend. He's a doc so thank God for that except he was one of the last ones on the ship in St. Martin for making a pit stop at the pharmacy. It seems like I heard a lot of coughing, sneezing, and conjestion from fellow passengers.

Turbo....we didn't make it to the meet and greet. Joe was looking out for you son too. He spent a ton of time in the kids club. For some reason, he loved it this time. Last cruise he didn't care to be there as much but this time he really enjoyed going there a lot. I am sorry to hear that Tyler busted open his knee again. Glad the friends came to the rescue.

I have never seen waves like that in the Caribbean. I was beginning to think I was in Hawaii. My kids loved playing in them though and finally convinced me to get in with them in Nassau. I am sure there is some good video of me somewhere going head over heels! I don't know why I try to keep up with them.

I am already secretly shopping for our next cruise. DH thinks I am crazy but I just love being at sea.
