conquest now in the bahamas

Love Grand Bahama! We've been going for over twenty years. Can't really capture the island as a port stopover but you can try! Wear your bathing suit and coverup, bring a beach towel, get off the ship and take a shared taxi or bus to whatever says "Port Lucaya" or "Beach". Should be around $5 per person. Port Lucaya is where the beach, casino, hotels etc. are located. Plenty of restaurants ring Count Basie Square. Try some cracked conch, have a Bahama Mama and just chill. The beach in front of the Sheraton/Westin complex is right there and there's a beach shack (Billy Joe's) for food and drinks just a short walk down the beach. If you have time, you can ask people where the police station is and head to the public bus stop right next to it. Bus drivers will take you to Taino Beach and arrange to pick you back up for around $2-3 each (each way). Just don't stay in the harbor area or head to downtown Freeport. There's nothing to see there and you'll get the wrong idea about Grand Bahama. Well, not wrong really, it's just not what I would be looking for as a tourist.

thank you. It's good to hear an enthusiastic response. Been hearing a bit of negative so far.

Not sure we are the basic beach type, we look for something that we can do to experience things a little more. We were hoping for some exciting excursion and so far we aren't finding that.

Loved the Bahamas!! Plan to go back with the kiddos for a land vacation. We went to Atlantis resort for the day and had a absolute Blast! but we love waterparks so it was alot of fun for us. I hope you find something you will be able to do and enjoy. . its a great place to see. :D

GBI is a great place to stay, but if you are only there for a few hours - some ships are there from 1 til 5 - it may not be worth getting off. I LOVE GBI but would hate for you to get the wrong impression about the island. If you are going to Nassau you can get trinkets right off the ship.

If you have a full day on GBI please head over PortLucaya and have a great time. There is an all-inclusive on the island - Viva Fortuna and they do sell day passes.

how is the conquest going to the bahamas? When I looked it was going to grand caymond? Is the boat leaving Tx?

No, the Conquest is not leaving Galveston. She will be sailing a new alternate itinerary. Approximately once a month, the Conquest will be visiting Key West, Freeport, and Nassau. This begins in February, 2009 and I will be on her first sailing in that directions! :D

Does anyone know what the cost is for a day pass to Atlantis? I can not find a price for that. I am also leaving on the Conquest on this new itinerary. I was kind of looking forward to going somewhere different out of Galveston. I hope I am not disappointed! :p

From the ship they are usually $159 pp. At the Casino (when available) they are $105. They are available at Atlantis based on occupancy.. so on heavy days, special events and holidays.. I wouldn't count on it.

Better to pay for the ships tour and be sure of a getting a pass.
