joevoter Posted March 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2008 I'm currently looking at airfares from Houston to Barcelona for November. Do any of you have experience in the Amsterdam airport? One of the flights has a one hour layover before we catch the last leg. Is this enough time? Will we be required to go thru customs there or in Barcelona? Also, having never done such, is there an airline that you feel is dependable and not too uncomfortable? I'm way out of my element here. Thanks for any feedback. But it is manageable. And there should be plenty of later flights to Barcelona if you miss the one you're booked on, so that shouldn't be a worry. At Amsterdam, you will clear immigration, but you should not have to collect your bags nor clear customs there. You should see your bags for the first time in Barcelona, where you will clear customs. Rare FlyerTalker Posted March 27, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 27, 2008 At AMS, there is an immigration "barrier" between the Schengen and non-Schengen portions of the airport. You will pass through that barrier for a passport inspection, staying airside in the security zone. There is a "short connect" line that is open at peak periods, in case you are running short. The 1 hour should be fine, though you will get to miss both the shopping and the museum at Schiphol. Some depends on the airline you are flying....if NW or KL, you'll be closer to the Schengen zone than if you are on CO or DL or another carrier. There are many moving walkways on the longer stretches (such as within the piers, and between the E & F piers.). Was there earlier this week....easy to navigate, with great signage. Check out the Schiphol website for much more info on the airport.
