Child's Age To Book Them Into Their Own Cabin?

Hi all,

 

We want to book two cabins for DW and I and our three teens: DD 19, DS 17 and DD 13. NCL won't let us book DW and I in one cabin and the children in another, even though the 19 year old is a adult - at least here in Canada - because she isn't 21. Is this common to other lines? We cruised Norwegian Majesty March 8th this year and there were a lot of spring breakers who sure didn't look 21 in separate cabins! Great cruise though, and certainly . . . lively! We "got around" the problem by booking a cabin each and then ignoring the rule when we got on board, but it would be simpler if they didn't have this rule - for example we could cruise with a balcony and they could cruise . . . somewhere else on board(!!).

 

Any ideas?

RCCL allows you to book your children into separate cabins as long as they are across the hall or adjoining.

Even if you HAVE to put 1 parent's name on each cabin, once you get onboard, you can switch. The only reason they do this is to keep adults from booking kids onto cruises alone--they want to make sure adults are present!

Once you board, they don't care who sleeps where!

I have heard that you can go to the purser's office and get a 2nd key card for each cabin. On our first cruise, we switched rooms but didn't know to get another one and it was a nuisance keeping track of when you needed the one issued to you. You need it to leave the ship but later you would need the other one to get into your cabin. It's easier if both parents had key cards for both.

we did that with our FIL, we wanted him to be able to go sit on our balcony during the day. got him a black key card...it was not tied to any credit card, it was simply a key card. you can do that with the cabin of you/kids. just have remember to NOT swipe that card as you leave the ship for ports, it will not show your photo. you get this card at the customer service desk, after you check in. don't confuse things by asking at check-in.

once you are on the ship, just move your luggage to what ever cabin you want. the room stewards will work with you to set the beds how you want them. booking 1 adult in each room is just that, showing (on the books) that there is an adult responsible for that cabin.
