rsp392 Posted March 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2008 Hi, My family is cruising next month on RC Mariner of the Seas. I was reading that you can purchase soda cards for unlimited fountain beverages on the cruise. My family doesn't drink a lot of soda - we enjoy non-carbonated beverages like lemonade, ice tea, fruit punch, water. Should we buy the soda card? I thought I read somewhere that ice tea and lemonade are free? Thanks in advance. RSP
sandytoes03 Posted March 30, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2008 IMHO don't buy it. If you guys don't like drinking soda much, I would just forget it.
sharktums Posted March 30, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2008 You need to drink about 4 sodas a day for the card to really make sense, so if you're not bothered by that, don't get it! The water has always been good and cold in the past Royal Caribbean Cruises I've done.
kitty9 Posted March 30, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 30, 2008 The lemonade is free along with fruit punch and ice tea. And the lemonade is really pretty good. I don't remember what the per day cost on RCCI is for the soda card, but on her sister line, Celebrity, it's $5 a day, plus the 15% tip. So unless you drink at least for or 5 sodas a day, it's not worth it. And, the card is not transferable, so if only one of you gets the "sticker" for soda, only that person with the sticker can get the soda.
rsp392 Posted March 30, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted March 30, 2008 Thanks for the help...I think at least my daughter and I will pass on it. Maybe my husband will get it? He likes soda.
gerif Posted March 31, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 31, 2008 If you only like the occasional soda, you can purchase individual cans (as opposed to the fountain drinks you get with the sticker) for $2.10 which includes tax/gratuity. Probably the best bet for your family.
stsomewhere Posted March 31, 2008 #7 Share Posted March 31, 2008 My children were allowed to have a soda at dinner or during the show. They never complained. They are known to waste soda. They prefered the lemonade.
jenwoist Posted April 2, 2008 #8 Share Posted April 2, 2008 Are sodas still included for the dining room meals?
gerif Posted April 2, 2008 #9 Share Posted April 2, 2008 Are sodas still included for the dining room meals? Not on RCCL.
njmomof2 Posted April 2, 2008 #10 Share Posted April 2, 2008 We got the soda card for DH only. He's the only one that drinks soda regularly (I won't touch fountain soda). Anyway, it's $5/day + 15% tip so a total of $40.25 upfront. Over a 7 night cruise, that means to break even (if an individual soda is $2.10 including tip) you'd need to drink about 3 per day. DH has 2 at dinner and the same at lunch. And occasionally got one in the evening on the promenade (we were on Mariner the week of March 16th). It was worth it for our family, but many don't find it so.
