Victory - Formal Night on 2-nt Cruise to Nowhere???

I'll be taking my first Carnival cruise on Victory, on the Oct 16th CTN out of Norfolk. Does anyone know if there will be a formal night? I read something confusing about luggage - will we have to carry all of it to the cabin? I've cruised many times on other lines, but this is my first on Carnival - any tips from you Carnival regulars?? Thanks!!

We are on the CTN out of New York on Friday Oct 22 and yes we have a formal night on Saturday with Lobster dinner. I heard from others on previous CTN that most people wore short satin dresses and satin pants with sequened tops. Not as dressy as the usual ones.

Ours is out of New York there are no porters for CTN and we have to carry on our luggage -so you may have to also. I am only taking on a small carry on that rolls with wheels.

- will we have to carry all of it to the cabin?

You will need to carry it ALL on a cruise to nowhere- there is no Porters. You will also be carrying off your luggage too so pack lightly. (tips are prepaid so we dont have to worry about prepaying.) stores will be opened- duty free. casino will be opened once you get out to seas.

(please do not compare a cruise to nowhere on carnival to a regular cruise going somewhere. it just wont be a fair comparrison)

You may want to check out carnival web page for gifts and buy drink coupons. 4 for 19.95

(i have a copy of the Victory CTN out of NY if you are interested. Send me your sanil mail address and I will whip them in the mail tomorrow.

Hi Serene56 -

Thanks for the offer of your Victory stuff - since we leave so soon, I won't impose on you to mail it to me. I will ask why a CTN won't be a fair comparison to a regular Carnival cruise. I'm guessing it's because it's such a short cruise? My first Royal Caribbean cruise was a 3-night Bahamas cruise, and it was wild - it seemed like everyone was trying to cram as much fun as possible into a short period of time. Is this what I should expect on Victory?

What was your favorite quiet place? Your favorite party place? Your favorite activity? Favorite bartender? Favorite drink? Favorite pool? ... I'll have so little time on board, that I'll appreciate any pointers in advance! Thanks!!!

Well- I have sailed the Victory 2 years ago so I dont think my waiters or bartenders are still there.

You have sailed on a short cruise so you know what to expect. I can tell you that I took my best friend on a ctn and ruined her for life. She will never ever step another toe onto a cruise ship- she hated it that much. It wsa aboard the Regal Rustbucket-um i mean Empress. The ship was commissioned in 1952 and let me tell you == she was old. It rained all weekend and the people ha dnothing planned inside. Now carnival cruises to nowhere will have a show each night one for early and another later.

We will be able to see commedians, karokee still-plus a piano bar. So ya see, even if its raining there will be things to do inside.

You have to set up your sign and sail because you get to still use it to purchase stuff. Cigerettes are still cheap. 15 bucks a carton. and liqour too.

If I sent out the capers from work tomorrow you will recieve them by Saturdays mail and can drool from then til you leave. lol

Just know that on the VIctory you can get anywhere you want from the Promanade deck. (deck 5) especailly if you have an aft dining room. and your dining room is on deck 3. you can only access this area by the aft elevators.

did you get yourdocuments yet>

We're also going on the cruise-to-nowhere from Norfolk on Oct 16. The key is to pack light because you have to haul your own stuff. We've done this same cruise 3 other times and it's really a great get away but can't compare to a week cruise. You'll need a day or so to recover because if you're like us, you will be trying to cram 7 days into 3! See you on board and have fun!

Thanks again for the info. I know what you mean about your friend's cruise. I have to confess that I've been a little nervous about Carnival, since it has the reputation of a loud party cruiseline. I don't care if it rains - I can be perfectly happy in a quite, shady spot on deck, reading a book and sipping a cocktail the whole time. Of course, I've also been known to join (even start!) a conga line from time to time. Also, I understand that nobody does the big shows better than Carnival. Even if I just end up reading on my balcony all weekend, I'll be a happy camper!

I am glad to get the tip about Deck 5 - I've been reading that people often get lost on the Victory.

CruiseDogs - where are you from? When are you getting to Norfolk? I just can't WAIT to get there!!!

Luvin Cruisin - We're from Yorktown and we have 4 couples going on the cruise. We're taking a limo to Norfolk instead of trying to park in the lot and ride the bus over. Did that one time - never again! We'll have to plan to meet for a foo foo drink on board!

Hi Cruisedogs - I'll be driving down from northern VA the day before the cruise (I'll find any excuse to extend any vacation!), and then joining a bunch of girlfriends for the cruise. Parking somewhere else and avoiding a shuttle bus sounds good - but I really like the idea of being able to just get in my car and drive away when the cruise is over - and I can't afford a limo from Fairfax! :-) Have you sailed out of Norfolk before? How does the bus work (with regard to the luggage, especially)? Where IS the port? Can you recommend a nice hotel, on the water? It doesn't have to be right near the port, although that's always a bonus.

Yes, I know I'm full of dumb questions - but I've been so overworked that I haven't had time to do any research at all. MAN, do I need this cruise!!

A foo foo drink sounds heavenly - just name the time and place!

There is the Waterside Marriott just 2 blocks from the pier and you could probably leave your car there for the weekend and walk. Lots of trendy restaurants and bars nearby within walking distance for the night before also. You'll find our group at one of the bars most likely - the girls will have on "Martini Girl" black tee shirts that we orderd. Check out http://www.cruisenorfolk.org and you may find some info.

Thanks! I've made a reservation at the Waterside Marriott. You're correct - I can leave my car there and walk to and from the Nauticus. This will be WAY better than dealing with the whole shuttle bus thing!

I'll look for you and the black shirts. I'll probably be in my blue Cruise Critic shirt - can't wait to meet you!!!
