Highlights of Tokyo and Hong Kong

We are cruising on the Crystal Symphony in March 2009 to China. We are considering spending some time pre-cruise visiting Tokyo and Hong Kong (where we embark the ship). We will have 2 full days in Tokyo. We will have 3 full days in Hong Kong. What do you recommend we see in that limited amount of time. A suggested itinerary for 2 days in Tokyo and 3 days in Hong Kong would be most appreciated. These days will be completely devoted to sightseeing, no travel between Tokyo and Hong Kong involved. Thanks for your help.

Shelley, how many separate threads are you going to start covering the same topic? :-)

In Tokyo, I would make sure to at least see...

Meiji Shrine
Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa
Tsukiji Fish Market
Ginza
Shibuya
Shinjuku Station at rush hour
Any department store basement
Tokyo Tower or top of Tokyo Government Bldg (if clear weather)
Any festival that might be going on while you are here
Imperial Palace East Garden

If you want to go a little further I would suggest

Kamakura for the Temples, Shrines, and Daibutsu

If Cherry Blossoms are in bloom, forget all the above and just check out the blooms.

If you had only two days to spend in Japan, I would choose Kyoto over Tokyo.

Hi - In Hong Kong:

Take the Star Ferry to Kowloon and go to Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade for a great panoramic view of Victoria Harbour and HK

Yuen Po Street Bird Garden (& Market)

Flower Market

Take the Peak Tram to the Peak

Happy Cruising!
