Century 3/31-4/05 Review

Just returned from 5 night Century. This was our first try at Celebrity and have a mix of good , bad and in between.

We did have a great time. Weather was great, smooth seas. Century looked great. We're not ones to get all bent out of shape if we see a carpet stain (we didn't).

We had a Sky Suite on deck 12 (1220) and had priority check in which went very smooth. We showed up about 11:00am and was onboard by 11:45. We thought the suite was comfortable but only slightly bigger than RCI mini-suite. The deck however was 142 sq. ft. and was more than adequate.

Also in the SS we had butler service. Our butler was Rommel. He did everthing we asked for, he was great. Highly recommended. We did hear the runners on the deck above us a area designated no running and called guest services. It stopped. They called us over the next few days to see if was still a problem. We were impressed with their concern and that goes a long way when we consider our return business.

The food. Well, We've heard so much about Celebrity food perhaps our expectation was too high. It was good not great. The waffles lived up to as advertised. We ate breakfast in the cafe and selection was very good. Lunch same. We had early seating for dinner. Although we felt our waiter and asst. worked very hard service was extremely slow. After a few days we firgured out that the front end of the dinning room was eating dessert while we had not yet had our entree. (Our table was at the very back on the second level by the window). Waited on average 1 hour 15 to get out main dish and by the time dessert came it was almost eight o'clock. This was really our only complaint. Pass on the strip steak, not good at all. Lobster so-so. Desserts very good. We passed on Murano so no comment there.

Entertainment we thought OK. Juggler and vantriloquist were funny. The rest was standard stock singing dancing. There was a couple that did a sort of Cirque Soleil bit that was pretty good.

Our eight year old was with us and he enjoyed the Kids Factory. The location was on deck four with no windows. One counselor commented that the Millennium class ships have more to offer in terms of location and space. But staff did a good job with the kids we felt.

Disembarkation went smoothly as well.

We would sail with Celebrity again.

That's all I have. If you have questions I would be happy to answer.

Hi, I'm sending my babysitter and daughter on the 4 day on the Century on 4/24/08 and wonder:

- was there an accapella quartet of singers? There was when we sailed on the Century last year and we really enjoyed the performances.

Thanks!

Lynne

Can you tell us all the important facts like where did you get those fancy Roll Call name tags for sail away? :D

Great meeting you and your family onboard the Century at sail away. We both thought this sailing on Century far exceeded our expectations.

I will post a review as well as soon as I have some time to compose my thoughts but agree with yours. We both found Century a great ship with a wonderful crew; I just wish it was a longer cruise.

Thanks for posting your review,

Joel & Colleen.:)

Thanks Joel.

It was a pleasure. Who knows if in the future we may raise a toast again at the mast bar. :) I too wish we had more time.

We'll definately stay in touch on these boards.

Lynne,

Yes, there was a quartet call "Michigan Avenue". They were good.

DH's suit jacket did double duty for informal night also. In the main diningroom there were many who went without the jacket on informal night, but it was required in Murano's where we ate that night. However, they had a jacket in Murano's for one man who showed up without a jacket.

we were going to eat at Murano's on informal night but my future husband and I decided we don't want to pack his sports coat (he is renting a tux for formal night), so we decided to forego Murano's (against my better judgment, but marriage is about compromise, right ;) ) and eat en-suite that evening...

can't wait to meet everyone on board!

Nicole,

Seriously, you don't want to miss Murano (especially because of attire!). It's really a memorable experience and can't compare to eating en-suite. I urge you reconsider (you WILL thank me : )) Either:

  • have your man wear the tux jacket and pants again (even if just for dinner), maybe without the tie?
  • or tell him to tough it out with that one extra item in his suitcase. I mean, good grief, what's an extra inch in your suitcase : ))

We sailed on the Century last April. We have traveled extensively and are foodies and we count our meal at Murano and in the Millennium's Olympia among our best dinners ever.

Enjoy!

As others have said, please reconsider. We did not eat in Murano while on the Century and we have regretted it. We ate in the Olympic this past January and it was incredible. I just got off the Mercury and the F&B Manager told me that he though Murano was the best specialty restaurant that X has.

If you decide to go, do not miss the Goat Cheese Soufflé. It alone is worth the visit.

If you are dead set against taking a sport coat, you can always dine in Murano on formal night.

Not entirely correct. Formal night dress code is enforced in Murano as well as the dining rooms. No coat leaves you the choice of sushi, casual dining, or room service.

Loved our Century cruise. The best part was the Martini bar and Sudi!!

Hi Joel - It was great to meet you and Coleen at the Meet and Mingle and elsewhere on the cruise. I agree wholeheartedly with your comments about food and service. We were in the aft section of the main floor of the dining room and found service lagged a bit and we were frequently among the last to leave. Food was good but overall not exceptional. Waffles were excellent some mornings and less so on one (probably timing was the problem as the times when they were wonderful, they were fresh off the waffle iron). The production shows weren't quite as good as the ones we saw on the Connie TA last September, and the ventriloquist and juggler were good, neither was IMHO worthy of being considered a "headliner". Then again, they were a big step up from the national champion whistler that headlined one of the shows on the Connie. Our stateroom was compact but very nice and storage was fantastic. I especially liked the wood table and chairs on our balcony and thought the Hemisphere Lounge was a wonderful spot to sit and read or look at the ocean during sea days.

Had I known that Tony was the guest speaker I would have made it a point to attend both his presentations but was pleased to find out that fact in time to make it to his Bermuda Triangle talk. We met some wonderful tablemates and I was led to marvel again at how well the cruiselines seem to put compatible couples together at their tables. The casino was not at all generous to me until the last night when I finally won enough that I probably broke even. LOL

I hope that we will have a chance to cruise again whether it be on Celebrity or Royal Caribbean. Best wishes to both of you from Rita and me.:)
