Great Lunch and View in Bathsheba - Round House Inn

Just a quick note and recommendation. We rented a car in Barbados and for lunch we stopped at the Round House Inn in Bathsheba. Wow! :) It has a fabulous view overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with the sound, sights and smells of breaking waves coming in constantly. The food was very good and the service excellent and people were very helpful with directions and things to see on the East Coast.

Did you drive through the interior parishes? We are in the process of booking a private tour and The Round House Inn at Bathsheba is where we have asked to have lunch. We're scenery people more than building, distillery people and I read in Frommers' that the interior was the most beautiful landscapes in the Caribbean. Can you help with where we ask him to take us?

Top of the day to you PrivateEye, we did indeed drive through the interior up Highway 2A (they are numbered on tourist maps). You do get glimpses of the west coast as you drive North on 2A. We then turned East onto Highway 2, went to All Saints Church (nice historic building) and then to Farley Hill National Park for a nice hike and rest (good place to picnic too) and almost right across the road to Barbados Wildlife Reserve (Green Monkeys sanctuary). From there we continued east on Highway 2 and then east and then south on Highway 3 that went to the amazing Atlantic side East Coast - we stopped at Barclays Park area for a looksee - the surf coming in was very nice and fun to play in a bit (note the surf that day was calm there and there were many rocks to break the surf up as well) - keep in mind there is garbage that floats in from the ocean there (i.e. not picked up). We then drove by Cattlewash and into Bathsheba where we had lunch - the surf and waves and view were just amazing - make sure you get a table by the front (if indoors) or one outside.

 

After lunch we went to the Andromeda Botanic Gardens which have two lovely walking trails and a large number of plants, ponds and structures to enjoy an informative nature walk on (and the people who work there are really nice as well). From there we followed H3 onto H4 onto the main highway and then down to Rockley/Accra beach on H7 and then followed that back to the cruise ship.

 

The interior was very lovely and very quiet once we we off H2 and onto H3 - lovely people all around - helpful and friendly. The island is small so those of used to North American distances would find to easy to traverse large sections of the island. We loved it so much we are going back for an 8 night trip and plan to further explore the interior.

 

Note that we had our two boys (8 and 4) with us on the trip and they loved all the attractions, stops and lunch - all of the above would be great for an adult couple as well.

 

Apparently, Orchid World is worth a visit as well (we did not have enough time to get there)

Please do not overlook, or rule out, the Atlantis Hotel in Bathsheba.

 

We've always had a great buffet there on Sunday, and it's great the rest of the week, so I'm told.

 

Ask your driver which one he likes. Like anywhere else, things change, but options availe you to the best at the moment, yes?

I'm pretty sure Atlantis does Buffet lunches Sundays and Wednesdays too.

 

Atlantis is just about the closest thing to real native cuisine

not all dolled-up by a Chef, per se.

 

Pumpkin fritters 2die4 and Spinach Balls too!

You'll see../taste..sorry.

Hard to beat this place for rustic ambiance...not to mention the foood.

 

Oh..I forgot to mention the Coconut Pie and the Rum Cake desserts.

Okay folks....today I stopped thru at RoundHouse Inn, Bathsheba.

Curiosity got the better of me.

Hadn't been there since I was a small boy, when the bldg. was just an old house.

 

It's a small intimate six room hotel now, serving meals three times a day.

Nice honeymoon suite up top, and views views views!

 

There's also a neat little sun deck out back

I've never eaten at Round House to be honest..

..but judging from room prices there

Atlantis should be the less expensive option, if cost is a factor.

 

If cost isn't a factor, Round House is the "better" locale...more polished.

I'm sure both places will be glad to have you, for whatever reason...Lunch or drinks!

 

Both have views but Round House has the better view,I reckon

- and in both directions(if you know to ask about the view from their sun-deck, out back

which you wouldn't ordinarily be aware of, going in the front).

RIght around the corner from the Round House Inn is the Edgewater in - from the deck it also has good views. They have in the past had a Bajan buffet on Sunday.

 

 

 

 

They have surfing competitions here around Thanksgiving

JMCruisebums - I've e mailed Jean Greaves several times after my initial answer from him w/o any further response. I'm not sure I'm trusting his dependability. Have you heard from him?

 

Jaysue - which interior parishes were the best for scenery. This cruise is so port intensive I'd just like to meander and get a taste for Barbados life. I've heard St. Andrews is not to be missed. Do you agree?

Barbados has two quite different 'sides' to it.

Where you dock(and where about 70% of the island is) is flat but sloping,terraced,coralline....

 

And as you rise while heading Eastwards(think Harrisons Cave), you end up on the edge of the escarpment

at about 900 ft. above sea-level, overlooking 'The Scotland District'

...so called because it strongly reminded early settlers of their native Scotland!

 

The parish of St.Andrew is down in that large semi-circular 'bowl' of The Scotland District

and as I drive through its leafy roads I am very much reminded of other islands like Grenada.

 

A drive along the East Coast Road will get you down there, taking you thru St.Joseph and St.Andrew

over to this quite different side of the island and its scenery.

 

 

St.Thomas is also up high,inland,green(even in Dry Season -now..ughh!)

and you might go thru there..on your way,to/from..

(again..think Harrisons Cave..that's in St.Thomas- even if you don't go there)

thru Welchman Hall(excellent gully walk!)right on the edge of the escarpment

and thence down into the Scotland District towards the East Coast Road

(NO SWIMMING THERE,despite the gorgeous scenery,please!)

Indeed..to make a reeaall simple matter of it

all you gotta do is tell your driver you want to drive the East Coast Road.

That way you have to get across the rest of the island

and go thru St.Joseph and St.Andrew(at either end of it)

and thus end up seeing pretty much the better,more interesting part of the island

- including the high bits!
