Passport policy

Do you know if passports are required for cruising. I am on the enchantment in September and do not have one. I also heard that there is a new passport card that you can use for cruising but am unsure if I will neven receive it in time.

I believe passports are not required for ship travel in 2008, but if you would need to fly home in an emergency that is another story.

The passport cards do not even have a starting production date yet so don't count on them. They are accepting applications for it but not producing them yet and I was told they are holding on to your documentation,(birth certificate) until they are ready to start production. Just get the passport it is so much easier.

I don't think passports are needed until 2009. My TA said each person has to have a passport though. I looked online, and the .gov website said no, but I still got one anyway. I didn't need it, but it made things easier. And they last 10 years, so in reality, for about 10 dollars a year, it's not a bad purchase. Like the someone else said, what if you need to fly home from a different country? You won't be able to get into the US with a passport. Better to be safe than sorry.

If you have a state issued birth certificate and driver's license, you'll be fine for a Caribbean cruise. None of the islands/countries require them for cruise passengers. Even if there was an emergency, and you HAD to fly home, you WILL be able to get back into the country!!! You may have to jump through a hoop or two, but they will let you back in!!!!!

So, no--you don't need a passport yet!
