Calica/PDC- a tender port or not?

Does anyone know if Calica/Playa del Carmen is a 'tender' port or will they dock? We will be on the Ecstasy in December and have a large group, so I was hoping to find out what to expect in advance.

Calica you will dock; we were there on the Celebration a few years ago. It was a NEW port then. Not too much there, so you will need to take a tour or a taxi to Playa; We went to Tulum/Xelha on a tour from the ship;

Just so you won't be too shocked (as I was) when you dock at Calica, it's nothing but a huge working rock quarry with a few vendor tents. BUT, there are plenty of cabs lined up to take you into PdC....$10 per cab for up to four ppl.

Calica (Spanish for Gravel Pit, I think) is a dock port, But we were on the Holiday to Playa Del Carmen 2 yrs back and we tendered. Guess it just depends on what's available that day.

We were diverted to Playa Del Carmen from Belize while on the Elation last July...we tendered into PDC...just FYI.

I've already heard about the lack luster of Calica, so we're all prepared to travel to PDC, but I'm getting confusion on the subject of tendering or docking there. Anyone been there recently?
