Dining room, casino & bars comfortable in short sleeves on Alaska cruises?

This is our first HAL cruise to Alaska and my Mom would like to know if the dining room, casino & bars are comfortable in short sleeves. She doesn't want to carry a sweater so would rather wear long sleeves if its cool on the inside of the ship. Any help is appreciated.

"Comfortable" temperatures are in the eye of the beholder. What's comfortable to me (meat locker) would be unbearably cold to many.

What temperatures usually make your Mom uncomfortable? I'm betting she'd be happier if she were to have a shawl (or sweater) with her. That way she can add/subtract as her comfort level varies.

I think I would have been too cold in Westerdam's dining room last November without a shawl. True, that was in the Caribbean, so the AC was turned up higher than it might be in Alaska. On the other hand, in Alaska one might end up wanting to go out on deck on short notice - at least briefly - if something exciting like a breaching whale turned up. So I'd recommend wearing lightweight long sleeves, and carrying a shawl as well.

Thanks a lot for your input. Mom says she will do the long sleeves and also take a sweater as she likes to be warm. Are there any other female widowed seniors going on the 5/18 Westerdam Alaska cruise?

You'll have better luck finding out posting this on the HAL Roll Call forum.

As seasoned Alaska cruisers will tell you, the secret is layers. Short sleeves are fine, as long as there's a shawl or sweater to add in the cool of the evening. Otherwise you find yourself packing t-shirts and sweatshirts, gloves and bathing suits, sandals and mukluks, etc. Even aboard the ship the temperature could vary 10-15 degrees between a large open area and a full show lounge.
