I don't believe that service is up and running yet. Usually just around the Islands. :)
dyanalee Posted April 15, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2008 We leave on the DP on Wed. for Hawaii. Can anyone tell me if you were able to get ATT cell phone service while at sea? We were on the Diamond Princess to Hawaii a few weeks ago and we were not able to get a signal while on ship. As soon as we hit our first port the signal came on strong and we were able to call our daughter. It was that way all the time we were in Hawaii, as soon as we pulled out and headed home, we lost the signal.

No not while at sea. Currently you'd need a satellite phone for that since cell service requires cell towers for signal bouncing... and there's not may cell towers in the middle of the ocean :) We got great service while in the islands though! Actually, ATT cellular service is supposed to be available on the Grand Princess already (while the ship is at sea, via the ship's satellite connection?) per the ATT website (but international roaming rates apply). cherylandtk Posted April 15, 2008 #6 Share Posted April 15, 2008 Grand Princess has had a cell tower for several years now; the remaining Princess ships are all having towers added this year. The schedule shows that the Diamond is supposed to be receiving her tower(s) sometime in the 2nd Q, so between now through June. Pricing depends on your individual cell provider, ATT runs about 2.49 per minute for voice. You must activate international calling on your phone--cruise ships are treated like individual foreign countries within most calling plans. We are sailing in late june, and I was hoping this would be available (to keep in touch with the office:o ) when we sail.
