Star cruiseline

We sailed the Straits of Malacca on Superstar Gemini in 1998. Small ship kept incredibly clean (the steward even unscrewed the brass rail in the corridor to polish behind the screws!!) Comfortable cabins. Lots of deck space. Very amateur entertainment - the crew talent show was the best - it was excellent. Equal mix of Asian and English speakers (mostly Australian, South African, English but few Americans) Buffet food was equal parts Asian and Western - not as much choice as the American ships but plenty of choice even for a picky eater like DH. Dining food OK if unremarkable. Extremely pleasant crew - we found ourselves walking round with smiles on our faces the whole time because they were so friendly. It was our first real cruise (only other was a Nile cruise) so had nothing to compare it with, but it certainly gave us the cruising bug.

Star is owned by NCL. .

Actually, Starcruises jointly own NCL with Apollo.

We have just booked our 8th cruise for october with them, which will be the 7th on Superstar Virgo (once on Superstar Gemini which is much smaller). We have certainly enjoyed it. Very friendly and efficient crew, very clean ships, good food and entertainment.

If you want more information, suggest have a look at the threads for the different ships under "Other Cruise Lines" - lots of info available there and if you have more specific questions, feel free to ask :)

Has anyone cruised with Star? How was it? Thanks!

:) It really depends what sort of experience you want. We loved the Strait of Malacca tour with the Superstarship Virgo which left from Singapore up to Phuket with stops at Penang, KL etc.

The Superstarship Gemini is smaller but can get right into the heart of places like Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. It is older but quite cosy. Agree with the other comments on the Gemini.

The Virgo is more luxurious and everything including the gym and tips is included in cost. It has one floor dedicated to kids including their own pool. We loved the different Asian food on the Virgo and the facilities.

We would go again with them because it is a different experience to travelling on American cruise lines like the Princess which does however have good itineraries if that is what you are looking for.
