Warnemunde train to Rostock and Schwerin

Recommended Posts

When the ship docks in Warnemunde, I see that the train will take us to Rostock and Schwerin. Has anyone used this mode of transportation and visited the Schwerin castle? We have all day since some people will be going to Berlin.

We rented a car to get to Rostock and Schwerin. Train would probably work just as well, though. Schwerin Castle was very interesting with nice grounds, though there was some construction going on when we were there last summer. Note that half of the Castle is some kind of local Parliament...we didn't know that and got chastized in German by a security guard when we tried to go in that entrance. Since Schwerin is mostly a place that local tourists visit, don't expect anyone to speak English. The town is very cute with lots of restaurants and bakeries. One bakery in particular on the main square had wonderful apple streudel and coconut pastries...it had a sign shaped like a pretzel though it seems like most bakeries have this. We were definitely glad we went to Schwerin/Rostock instead of trying to make it to Berlin.

We will be on the Century next week (in Warnemuende on 24th)

We want to go from Warnemuende to Rostock

Thanks

Neither - nor:

how you get from your ship to the station, buy tickets, see around in Warnemünde...

But you need this additionally to get to Rostock:

http://home.arcor.de/yao/Rostock.pdf

So you need both.

We also arrive on Sunday (Aug 17) in Warnemunde aboard the Regatta. We are thinking that a visit to Lubeck and Schwerin would be nice. We would also like to see Warnemunde. There are four in our group and we thought we would use the train if possible. Will we be too hurried? We would like this to be a leisurely day of site seeing. We are afraid many things will be closed. Any suggestions you may have are very welcome.

HeinBloed,

My wife and I will be in Warnemunde on Saturday, July 12. Do you recommend that we take the train to Rostock or Schwerin or both destinations? What is your recommendation on train schedule?

Thanks

That's why I am always asking for your ship's name: for the worst case that there are more than one ship in Warnemünde and I need to know when and where you arrive... Sometimes ships do not dock in Warnemünde...

For all of you:

Mininum requirement:

1 Länderticket Mecklenburg-Vorpormmern (= Day Pass)

for 5 persons

2nd class 25.00 EUR

1st class 45.00 EUR

DO NOT BUY ONLINE - IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE.

BUT IT AT THE MACHINE WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD:

I think your ship is so small that there is a fast debarkment...

Subject you are on ROTTERDAM:

I do not think that you would like to leave before breakfast...

If you prefer to go to Rostock you can interrupt your return journey in Rostock.

great details - very clever...

what about going to Hamburg for the day - seems to be only 2+ hours w/1 change in Rostock....I've been to Berlin a couple of times...never to Hamburg . What do you think?

A good idea!!!

But depends on the ticket price you are willing to pay:

2 1/2 hours = long-distance-trains

3 hours = regional trains

On long-distance-trains you cannot use the day passes.

But you can get super saver discounted tickets for 29.00 EUR each way.

No changes - no refunds - available in Internet

Länderticket Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is valid to Hamburg incl.

but valid after 9.00 am on weekdays.

So again: depends how much you are willing to spend, on which ship and day you arrive.

I am so happy to have come across your posting. I have posted on so many forums but no one has been able to help with my ?

We are afamily of 3 (1 is 17 yr old) and we are coming to warnemunde on Thursday Aug. 14th at 6;30 am on Carnival Splendor. We REALLY want to go to Berlin and want info. on how to take the train and make use of the Lander pass. Can we buy it at the station and how much it is. is it good for round trip? Also where in Berlin is the train station and what can we see/do there by ourselves without a guided tour.

IMP- Does the train Go back to warnemunde from the same ststion?

Whatever info.u vcan provide us with will be really appreciated.

HeinBloed,

Thank you so much for your wonderful information. We are on the Regatta on Aug 17th going to Schwerin and Lubeck. I think I understand that the 4 of us must buy individual tickets from Warnemunde to Rostock (as it is before 9AM) and then utilize the Landerticket - Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the rest of the day. Do I have it right? Is there an equally good schedule for a bit after nine?

You are a very valuable asset to this board! Thank you! Thank you!

Absolutely!!!

Is there an equally good schedule for a bit after nine?

Not without loosing 1 1/2 hours time to spend in Schwerin or Lübeck...

I think we are talking about 1.70 EUR = 2.50 USD more to get this extra time and less time pressure...

Eat one scoop less at Niederegger in Lübeck... and spend this money in the extra ticket to Rostock.

It's the best investment you can make!!!

Regards from Tokyo!!!

You make an excellent point. If we should decide to only go to Lubeck, I presume we would still make use of the Landerticket. The website showed a 2:17 minute trip utilizing the Schones-Wochenende - I don't know what that is?? Thanks again for any clarification you may be able to provide.

Schönes Wochende = Happy Weekend = nationwide...

but you only get to Lübeck... so statewide = Länderticket Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is enough...

Dear Cruisemates,

I am sorry that I have to inform you that I need to discontinue all download-links for my guides.

Normally I have a monthly budget of 1 GB download traffic and I am buying during the summer-season 1 GB additionally so you can download some information for your shore excursion plannings.

The last 48 hours there were a download traffic of 12 GB.

First: you cannot visit all places which I am describing as your ship will not stay so long in Warnemünde. It's not St. Petersburg with an overnight stay!

Second: there cannot be so many cruisers now in the Baltics that this traffic is occured. I know that CARNIVAL SPLENDOR is the new unit in the Baltic Sea... but so much.

As I get statistics I can see that some of you are not download them on your harddisk and save them but download it again and again:

Let's see what is there.

Now I am in my final planning and let's download it again.

This costs my money. My drinks and my onboard-spend.

I am willing to help you. So you can still download them on request for free.

All you need to do:

1. option: add your e-mail-address to a posting.

2. option: write me an e-mail with your download-request to

CC-DOWNLOAD (at) nickname-online dot de

(please replace nickname by the nickname used here in this forum)

You will get a e-mail with a link and an password.

You have 10 days free access when you get this reply.

Sorry that I have now some more administration and you might need some hours before you get your answer-mail but I really would like to go on my next cruise and not just having ice water and iced tea... Therefore please understand my decision to help you - but not any more unlimited.
