What if you don't have a credit card?

Recommended Posts

I don't have any credit cards, except for my Visa Debit card.

My cruise fund will be in my bank account, but with a hold I wouldn't have access to that money, hence I would need an extra source?

What would be my best bet money wise on the boat? Will they allow others to put a credit card on file for me? I mean like a relative covering my deposit with their credit card?

Thanks for any advice...

If you have a relative traveling with you they should be able to guarantee your account with their credit card. I think you can also put up a cash deposit and when it's running low they will notify you to make another deposit however, the ATM fees onboard are pretty steep.

The debit card can be used. If you have a daily limit on your account ask the bank to lift that for the duration of your cruise. Do that a month before you leave.

You can also use cash- 250 for a 7 day cruise to activate your account. Once it gets low you will get a note to put more down.

I dont have a creit card and have used both options.

I wanted to use my debit card to earn miles. So when I open my sail away cards with it do they just treat it like a credit card or is there a daily hold on it? Ive been trying to use only this card instead of a credit card. This way I know there is no billcoming in the mail plus everything is paid in full.

Your card will only be charged at the end of the cruise. Int he begining they do put a hold on it..dpending on how long you are going. 7 days is 250.00

(make sure you have the daily amount lifted_

You could send yourself a cabin credit prior to cruising.

The ship will deduct any charges you make onboard.....and you can withdraw cash from the casino, with no fee involved.

They may still need some form of cash/card when you process during embarking.

On our last cruise, it took almost one day for our cabin credit to show up on our account.

American Express (and others, I think) offer PRE-PAID credit cards. it costs like $14, but you can put as much as you want on it, I think there is a $300 minimum though. We're planning on putting our "onboard" stash on the credit card and having traveller's checks on hand as well.

hope that helps!
