Do You Really Want to Cruise With 5000 Others?

Recommended Posts

I don't know- I'm reading about this "Genesis Project" and just not excited about it. Am I the only one who does not want to be part of a floating city? Who needs Central Park on a cruise ship? Maybe I'll change my mind as the reviews come in next year. Maybe I'm a weirdo but I don't need shopping malls, ice skating, boxing, etc... These are all the things I try to escape from when I'm on a cruise!

I like that there is a variety of options when it comes to cruising. I will most likely try out the Genesis class, but sometimes prefer sailing on smaller, more intimate cruise ships.

I have not been on RCCL yet but I'm sure they can handle the crowds. We were on Crown Princess with 3500 on board last year and had to get to a evening show 30 minutes early just to secure a seat. It really turned me off to a large ship.... Looking forward to the beautiful Jewel of The Seas next year. Looks like the perfect size for me. To all who like it large- enjoy :)

We were just on the Serenade with over 2500 people and it was not crowded at all. I don't think double that amount will make much difference as there will be lots of different places to see and hang out. I'm ready for it.

Not for me - sounds horrible

I agree - At first I thought it was a neat idea, but the more I think about it the more stressed I would be just trying to find everything. You would have to do a B2B because it would take you 1 whole week just to figure out where everything is!

I actually feel LESS crowded on the Fredom class than on the Voyager class. RCCL has done better than other cruise lines (Carnival and Princess) on their bigger ships by not only adding cabins, but adding a lot more space too! (Pool decks, lounges, and increasing theatre size)

I like the bigger ships, as long as the services (food areas, pool areas and entertainment options) grow too.

Plus I like to be on a ship when it pulls into port and be bigger than the rest:p

There's a lot of people who love the idea and there's those that love the smaller ships. My father doesn't like doing the excusions, but really enjoys the entertainment on-board. I prefer to explore the islands, and the days that we're at-sea, I just lounge around by the pool.

I personally hope their elevators can handle that many people! The ones on the Mariner were soooooo slow.

Originally, I wasn't thrilled about the Genesis project, but I am now in a wait and see mode.

One thing I didn't like about our cruise on a Voyager class ship (AOS) was that it almost seemed to turn its back to the ocean. Since the Freedom class ship was a supersized version of the Voyager class, I haven't rushed to sail on them. The Royal Promenade makes me feel like I am inside a Hotel in Las vegas (think the Venetian or some other themed casino shopping area.)

From what I have seen so far, I like the open air places that the Genesis project has. Hopefully they will incorporate lounges/seating areas in other parts of the ship that overlook the ocean.

I am the opposite. Once the first construction pics came out I was less excited. And the rendering done it for me.

You may want to look at CP again. It is like a courtyard or dormitory. That is worse than the RP.

If you look at the renderings of Genesis there is no more helipad, no more promenade deck where you can walk around, no more sun deck above the pool deck. The only outdoor places will be the rooftop pool decks. Thats what it looks like.

YOu are not alone. We have tried Voyager class and I think that was a ZOO. Too many people everywhere. I will never foget how crowded was the captain's party in the Promenade - wall to wall people with no place to stand or talk and enjoy the festivities. People were stepping on each other feet , and ladies long dresses. 5000 people in line to tender from that ship, 5000 people by the pool, 5000 people at the buffet line at breakfast - you got my point..I think 3000 is the most I can handle. Hard to imagine good service or good food, when it is 5000 on board. We shall see.
