Parsman Posted May 3, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2008 I have been cruising with Fred. Olsen sice 1991 when they had only one cruise liner, the "Black Prince". She is very old but has an enthusiastic following. I wonder how long FOCL can keep her running. It was rumoured that she would be withdrawn from service in 2009 but so many dates for her demise have been suggested in the past but she has soldiered on (to coin a phrase!). Does anyone have any idea when she will go? Also it was suggested that another small ship would be acquired to replace her. Any ideas?
braemar12 Posted May 3, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2008 I have just received advance details of her 2009/10 cruises up to April 2010. It appears that she will remain in service until at least the middle of 2010. I still remember going on her when she sailed for Norway Line between Newcastle and Bergen in 1984. Also sailed on her sister ship Black Watch (Jupiter) between Esbjerg and Newcastle in 1985 on the way home from Legoland in Denmark.
merecat Posted May 4, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 4, 2008 She has to go by 2010 because she won,t pass the SOLAS regs.and there has been talk of her being used as a sight seeing ship in the Norweigen Ffords.Which would be a lovely idea.
