Mini-Suites Question

Hi

Could someone please tell me if the extra space in the mini-suites (Star) is worth the extra money if your someone that normally books a balcony? I realize that the actual balcony is larger and that there is a tub in the cabin. The tub to me is pointless and a larger balcony is nice....but...is there something else I'm missing? Also, does anyone recommend a cabin or area of deck 11 of the NCL Star?

Thank you. Mike

A mini suite can also sleep four, the sofa has a pull out double sized bed. There's also a curtain between the sofa and bed area. For four, a mini suite can be cheaper than two seperate balcony cabins, which on the Star can sleep three at most.

Hi MikeyB - I did book a minisuite on the Star when I usually book a balcony. From what my TA told me there are some new features with having a minisuite. This is what she told me is part of the minisuite package:

Embarkation

Cut Flower(s) in bud vase

1 Fruit Basket* (s/s fruit bowl)

1 Bottle of Spring Water

Bath Amenities

Conditioning Shampoo (Dispenser)

Hand Soap (Dispenser)

Bath and Shower Gel (Dispenser)

Moisturizing Lotion

Oatmeal Soap

Shower Cap

Shoe Shine Mitt

Other

Bath Robes (Waffle Weave)

Feather Pillows

24 hour room service (Standard Menu)

Continental Breakfast

Coffee Maker

Both the balconies and minisuites get priority disembarkation.

Hope this helps. I am considering saving some money and going to a balcony. We sail Oct. 11th on the Star.

Hi Monicamn

We are looking for a sailing in late November. There is about a $300 difference (cabin) between the two. It will just be two of us. I was thinking I could run up a bigger bar bill or play for higher minimums at the casino. Some of the items you mentioned are part of Freestyle V2. The balcony and mini suite to not get priority disembarkation. Unless someone on this board can tell me something besides the 70 odd feet of extra space, I will also opt for the savings. thanks all.

Just got off the Star. We had originally booked a BA on deck 10. We were upsold to a a Mini Suite on deck 11 - let me tell you, there's not much of a difference between the AF and the BA (having been in a BA before).

Differences that I can tell:

- robes, flowers, larger entrance way, a bit larger room, deeper balcony, bathtub, larger sofa, curtain that can separate the room.

Is it worth the extra $300 - possibly. If I was upsold again to a Deluxe Balcony (what they are calling the mini-suite now), probably not.

What you used to get was the Concierge. This was the biggest difference between the mini-suite and a balcony. That's gone now because some people abused the service.

We also didn't notice much difference in the width of the room.

All rooms on the Star get coffee makers now.

All rooms get the continental breakfast (room service).

No, you don't get feather pillows, unless you ask (same for all rooms).

So, as someone said previouse "It's $300 that I could spend on a bar tab or shore excursion."

Last cruise we went with friends, they had a mini and we had a regular balcony. Both my husband and I agreed the money would not be worth it to us. However, the space was nice for the 4 us to hang out together in there cabin. So if your going alone and no one to entertain I say skip it. Just my opinion:)

We have booked mini suite 11566 on the Jewel and have been wondering how it compared to the RCCL Mariner of the Seas Jr Suite, which we occupied last November. Does anyone have any comments? We are a bit reluctant because of all the negatives we've heard about NCL. But we are tired of trying to be everywhere the cruise line wants us to be all of the time! We met a nice couple last November and wanted to have dinner together, but were unable to unless we wanted to eat buffet. NCL sounds like the answer. IS IT!???

Thanks for the reply freestylecruizer. Is the Star already V.2? To me, if you do not have concierge or priority embarkation or disembarkation, I am questioning my pick of a room even more. I could certainly use the $300 difference towards some fun on the ship. For some reason, I am questioning what my NCL TA told me about the Deluxe Balcony extras. I don't want to get on ship and be disappointed in what she told me. What was the room number that you had? Ours is located slightly under the pool area and I am wondering if we would hear chairs sliding?

What excursions would you recommend?

Thanks for any advice.

A little off topic... but that is the nice thing about NCL you may eat with whoever you want and for the most part, any time you want also. Just be willing to be slightly flexible with the time you eat when the ship is full. I love freestyle.
