Marseille to Aix-en-Provence

2 questions...

First, how much is a taxi from the port to the St. Charles train station in Marseille?

Second, are the Aix-en-Provence main station and Aix-en-Provence TGV station close to each other?

The TGV from Marseille to the Aix TGV station is only 12 minutes! The regional train to the main Aix station is about 40 mins.

Thanks!

A little searching threw up this page, which quotes 13 km as the distance from the TGV station to the city centre. This page gives the addresses of both stations with links to mapping pages, but if that link doesn't work then go to this page and click on the "travel" link in the left hand menu bar. There are maps showing the city's own railway station here, here and here.

I believe the taxi from the port to the train station was about 16 Euros. When we got to the train station, we were told the next train was not for another 2+ hours. Really bad news as that made it almost too late! So we took the metro to Vieux Port, spent over an hour siteseeing, then went to an information center. The man there said there's a bus that leaves every 15 minutes to Aix! Bus station is right by the train station. I really had my heart set on seeing Aix, so back to St. Charles on the metro, then follow the signs to the bus station; sure enough, got right on a very nice bus. About a 30-40 minute ride. Return buses every 15 minutes as well. I don't remember the exact price, but I know it was quite reasonable.

Peter M: If we decide not to go to Les Baux on the $45.00 ship's tour, we want to go to Aix. The $1.00 senior fare is unbelievable!! Does this service also run on Sundays, as that is when the Splendour is in Marseilles. Thanks so much.

We took bus on Easter Monday, a public holiday. Your Les Baux tour sounds good for $45; maybe ask driver to drop you off at Aix-en Provence exit on Autroroute, and take cab in 1-2 km. Worthy of a try and gratuity if nesssary!. Save you 1-2 hrs. and you should be going right by anyway.
